Somehow, October passed, and November arrived. Our staff and volunteers returned to work shortly after the hurricane hit to address our hurting neighbors’ needs. I’m so proud of our tiny team’s hard work and efforts over the last 30 days. In the last month, we’ve provided 804 local families with gasoline for their cars and generators. We sourced and opened a free store filled with hygiene and health items, diapers, dog food, warm clothing and heaters. We’ve provided thousands of people with warm blankets, coats and other winter clothing. And we’ve taken many, many rental and mortgage applications from folks who have lost their incomes.
Besides direct support, we have given and received so many hugs. We’ve gone through a few boxes of tissues with people who were struggling before the storm, and with those who have never needed to seek assistance in their life until Hurricane Helene hit.
WNC is a strong, resilient community – and we have the kindest, most generous neighbors. They reside in WNC, and across our nation. From the $10 bills we’ve been handed, to the amazing outpouring of support from Luke Combs, Eric Church and the Concert for Carolina, we’ve seen an outpouring of care, items and funds to support our work. We’re putting these funds to work to keep our neighbors housed, safe and warm.
November and December are our busiest months. November starts with the Smoky Mountain Toy Run at Kearfott on November 2 to collect funds and toys for kids and teens in our community. On November 27, in partnership with our friends at Ingles Market and
With so much gratitude for our beautiful, caring and hurting community,
Beth
