KINDNESS IN ACTION - OCTOBER 2024

Like all of us in WNC, our hearts are heavy with grief after seeing the damage that Hurricane Helene has done to the people and places that we love. We are grateful that our staff are safe and accounted for. And we are holding those who still await word from their loved ones in our hearts and thoughts. The recovery from this will be long and challenging. And we know that the people of WNC are up for this challenge, especially if we work together to find practical solutions for the problems we are facing.

Eblen Charities has started a Hurricane Recovery Fund, to help our neighbors here in WNC. These funds will be used to help people remain housed by paying back-due mortgages and rents; pay for gasoline; and assist with medical needs. These funds will also allow us to help people who normally would not need our help but who may be facing a job loss. We know that our community’s recovery will be long, and we will need to provide support to care for our neighbors. If you are in a position to help or to help us, get the word out, please do. Every bit helps.

And if you need help, we are here for that as well. Our office at 23 Hamilton Street Asheville NC 28801 will be open Monday through Friday, 11 AM – 1 PM.

We are working through some details for our regular fall giveaway events. Please continue to check Facebook, Instagram and our website for updates.

This is a hard, difficult time for our community. As Arthur Ashe said, “Start where you are, use what you have. Do what you can.” We are here, with you, to do what we can.

Thank you to Asheville native and AC Reynolds Alum, LUKE COMBS,

for choosing Eblen Charities as one of the beneficiaries of the

Concert for Carolina.

Funds raised from this exciting event will enable us to help more families and individuals in our community recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene.

We appreciate your support of Eblen and the people of WNC!

GIVE TO

PUMPKINS!

PUMPKIN FUNDRAISER

A favorite October event for our local schools for many years. The money raised goes right back into our community to help families and individuals in need.

Participating schools encourage pumpkin purchases by having fun activities for students and teachers. For example, buy a pumpkin for $1 and you can wear a hat for the day or dress up like a superhero for the day, etc. Classrooms and schools also compete for prizes awarded by Eblen. We love seeing how schools encourage involvement each year.

Unfortunately, this is event has also felt the impact of Hurricane Helene. Because schools are closed indefinitely, schools are not able to participate in person.

However, our schools and community can still give to our Pumpkin campaign by donating online or purchasing a pumpkin at your favorite Ingles Market.

BOOsters for a Buck

The business partner to our Pumpkin Campaign is BOOsters for a Buck!

Purchase a BOOster for $1 at one of these local WNC businesses:

  • First Citizens Bank
  • Self-Help Credit Union
  • Telco Credit Union (Tunnel Road)
