Letter from the Editor

Otto Scharmer, MIT professor and creator of Theory U, argues that the traditional, static view of a "system" is an illusion—a "blind spot". Instead, he believes that what we call a system is actually a constantly evolving "coalition of stakeholders" or a "social field" that is made possible by its participants. While I have studied Scharmer’s work in his complex and scholarly Theory U Lab, I found his core insight of awareness-based systems change echoed in many myths, fairy tales, and children’s stories.

Think of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, clutching Toto, standing with her brave companions as a blustery, disembodied head wreathed in fire and smoke bellows his refusal to help them. It’s Toto, with his love for Dorothy and wise instinct, who pulls back the curtain and exposes the ordinary man pulling the levers to create the illusion of an all-knowing, all-powerful wizard.

Like the wizard’s fiery head, systems based on the Dominant Worldview appear intimidating, impersonal, vast, and separate from us. It sets the rules, demands compliance or impossible tasks, and maintains authority through fear, mystique, and the belief that only it can confer legitimacy or solutions.

Until the disruptors show up. The disruptor is often not the most pow erful actor but the one least captured by the illusion. In Theory U, the capacity to break the trance is possible through sensing and presencing: moving below the surface to see what is really happening. In the Wizard of Oz, the disruptor is Toto.

Scharmer’s illumination of our “blind spot” isn’t a denial that patterns and structures exist, but that they are maintained by ongoing, witting or unwitting participation. The coalition of stakeholders, the social field, is a living pattern of relationships (kinship), attention, stories, power dynamics, and habits — continuously enacted by the people inside it. There is no separate “system” to petition from outside; there are only coalitions of stakeholders whose quality of relating and seeing either reproduces the old patterns and stories or allows new ones, like Nested Kinship, to emerge.

In the end of the children’s story, we are told the power to overcome evil and return home was always possible... once Dorothy and her companions realize they are the coalition of stakeholders. And their shared quest, their complementary gifts, their willingness to keep going together — that was the real operating system.

And now that you know the truth about "systems," on this Solstice Day I invite you to set aside time to explore our stories of coalition stakeholder envisioning and building below. I know it’s a lot. We’ve been busy. And inspired (you will be too).

Please join us in celebrating the first official graduating cohort of Nesting Ambassadors this month. We proudly recognize and honor their brave disruptor instincts and hearts for humanity. (You will meet them soon in the Nesting Ambassador Global Directory.)

You are invited to join us for this fall’s Nesting Ambassador Program. Together, we’re finding our way home.

Warmly,

Lisa Reagan

Apparent Telepathy Between Babies And Nursing Mothers – A Research Survey By Rupert Sheldrake

Most women who have had this kind of experience seem to take it for granted, and assume that it depends on a psychic bond. If they are right, this would imply a form of telepathy more physiological and fundamental that the kinds of ESP usually investigated by experimental parapsychologists and psychical researchers.

Applied Connection Practices Within The Evolved Nest: With Jon Young And Sarah Fontaine

Jon Young and Sarah Fontaine, Certified Nesting Ambassadors, share their lifelong work and insight into Nature Connection. In this presentation to Nesting Ambassadors, Jon says, “Connection is regenerative, but so is disconnection. And right now we are watching both happen in real time and disconnection is winning.”

Integrating The Holistic Science Of The Evolved Nest: Self, Scholarship, And Teaching

Jill Brown shares her extensive research on child fostering practices in Namibia over 25 years, describing how children are cared for by non-biological family members and the cultural beliefs surrounding this practice, including its role during the AIDS crisis. Jill also presented her experience teaching the Evolve Nest curriculum at Creighton University, sharing student projects and discussing challenges in implementing worldview-shifting content in an academic setting. Three students share their insights after learning about the Evolved Nest and its Kinship Worldview.

Integrating Evolved Nest Science Into Systemic Family Therapy

Peter says, “Given the Dominant Worldview’s exploitative, parasitic and destructive impact on the planet and all living beings, I consider that moving toward decolonising and indigenizing psychotherapy is an essential ethical imperative. We are targeting various layers of the community of Systemic Psychotherapists and Family Therapists in the UK and around the world, from trainees through to qualified practitioners, via writing, discussion, training and presenting on the relevance of the Nested World and how it enhances Systemic Psychotherapy and, more importantly, enhances the lives of our clients."

"Neuro-decolonizing" Integrating Evolved Nest Science Into Nature And Art Therapy

By Kathrine Cays

Recent neuroscience reveals what Indigenous wisdom traditions have long known—that contemplative practices literally reorganize the brain, creating new pathways for understanding and creativity. It is like rearranging furniture in a room to open new flows of movement and light; in the same way, meditation induces measurable neuroplastic changes that can help break free from Eurocentric patterns of dominance.

A Father's Nature Connection for Babies

Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate! No, This Is Not Human Nature. It’s Deep Conditioning.

An Excerpt from the New Book

By Jeremy Lent: Ecocivilization

Our modern civilization is only the most recent instantiation of the wealth pump, using hierarchical structures to centralize power and preserve domination by a small elite. An ecocivilization would promote the principle of subsidiarity: pushing decision-making power down to the lowest feasible level in the system, trusting communities with the choices that shape their lives.

Children and Nature Network

C&NN believes that the well-being of children and the wild places we love are inextricably linked. And while research tells us that regular time outdoors is essential for children’s healthy development, today’s kids are less connected to nature than ever before.

The Evolved Nest recognizes nature immersion and connection as one of its core components for optimal child development, fostering deep relational bonds between children, their communities, and the natural world as a seamless whole.
