Also Known As "Bones" |
More and more athletes are turning to Kinesio Taping to keep them in fighting trim. It was part of the training regime for UFC fighter Jon "Bones" Jones as he kept himself primed for whatever opportunities came his way.
That prime opportunity was announced Saturday, February 5th, as Jones defeated Ryan Bader and received the offer for a title fight. Jones will battle UFC light-heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua just six weeks from now. Getting the announcement right before Super Bowl Sunday probably helped, as Jones is already the favorite to take the title.
UFC president Dana White says Jones could go down as the sport's greatest fighter. "He was really calm, cool and smooth," White told MMAjunkie.com. "He handled it like a champion. This kid had all the tools....."
And along with his natural drive and skills, Jones moves forward with Kinesio Taping as one of the tools at his disposal.

We're Out There Everywhere -- Making Patients Feel Better
Nancy Vogler, PT, CKTP, received her BS degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She was chief of physical therapy at the Baltimore Veterans Administration Medical Center and retired six years ago 32 years of service.
After only 2 weeks of retirement she began working for MedStar Health. Vogler provides PRN coverage for them at Good Samaritan and Union Memorial Hospitals in the Baltimore area.
"I use the Kinesio Taping application extensively," she writes, "and am always called upon to mentor other therapists in its use and/or to tape patients other than my own. I am always told by patients what a difference taping makes in their recovery. I know that my success rate in reaching patients' goals is due to the fact that I have been trained by your experts in the field and that I use it extensively on a regular basis. As a result I feel confident that my applications parallel the patients' problems. I am so thrilled that I have learned Kinesio Taping and keep it foremost in my tool box."
She has been a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner since 2004. "One interesting taping that I performed," she shared recently, "was when an existing patient developed a large olecranon bursitis of the involved upper extremity. She did not like the way it looked and wanted me to make it disappear. I'd rarely had much success with this in the past with other patients but decided to try Kinesio Taping the elbow. I attempted a power taping to the olecranon with the elbow in slight flexion. To my surprise and joy, the bursitis resolved completely within 3-4 weeks. Another Kinesio Taping success!
"By the time that I discharged the patient, she had reached all her goals and was able to return to practicing massage therapy. Whenever our paths cross, we talk about our successful year together and her significant gains, of course amidst hugs and kisses. She never fails to bring up the bursa issue which she thought pretty amazing, and this was a small part of her recovery when one looked at the big picture.
"I can't praise the skill of Kinesio Taping enough and what a valuable tool it has been for me and my patients." | |

KTAI Protects CKTP Accomplishments |
Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioners (CKTPs) are dedicated medical professionals who have completed the globally recognized KTAI training program, including an extensive written exam. You have always provided the backstop for Kinesio Taping standards, development and research. As the KTAI expands geographically and in areas of practice, existing and new CKTPs will continue to provide the face of Kinesio in your individual communities.
It is a responsibility that CKTPs have traditionally fulfilled with a high level of grace, skill and professionalism. In order to further recognize your expertise, and to protect your valued CKTP credentials, the KTAI has created an official logo and trademarked both the initials and the written terms behind them. A licensing agreement has been put together detailing proper use and expanded promotional opportunities. It will be emailed to all current CKTPs and we ask that you sign and return it. This requirement will also be asked of all new CKTPs as part of their certification process.
With this agreement CKTPs will have, along with logo use and promotion, access to the KTAI symbols and initials "KTAI," "KTA" and "CKTP" for their own promotional use. This includes use on business cards and window seals, and in online and professional listings.
Watch for this to arrive in your inbox in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, please make sure that the KTAI office has your accurate email address. |
