Kinesio Tape

What Is KinesioTape?

KinesioTape is another safe and effective tool we use here at Scheideman Chiropractic, to help your body heal. It is not only used on Athletes, it can be used for a very wide range of issues in children, the elderly, and your "average joe."

It is used to...

* Reduce Pain

* Reduce Swelling

* Reduce Muscle Spasms

* Restore Strength

* Restore Mobility

* Hold Adjustments

                                                  * Speed-Up Healing Time

We like to look at KinesioTape as A "Treatment Between Treatments." A Therapy that you can experience when not in our office!

Specific Issues We Treat With KinesioTape:

Repetitive Sprains & Strains

Acute Pain Due To Trauma

Rotator Cuff Injuries

Bruising, Edema & Swelling

Improving Athletic Performance

Lower Back & Neck Pain

Shin Splints

Plantar Fasciitis

Rehabilitation

Postural & Biocmechanical Imbalances

Arthritic Pain

Chronic Pain Syndromes

The Science Behind The Tape:

Structural:

Prevents Harmful Range Of Motion Without The "Hardened" Feel of Athletic Tape (which is used for immobilization).

Dynamically Supports Better Postural Positions (re-educates muscles).

Decreases Repetitive Strain

Decreases Muscle Fatigue

Decreases Muscle Cramping

Neurosensory:

* Restores Normal Muscle Activation & Function.

* Enhances Sensory Stimulation, Leading To A Decrease In Neural Perception Of Pain.

*Stimulates The Receptors On/Under The Skin With A Micro-Massage

(due to adhesive pattern).

Microcirculatory:

* Improves Lymphatic Flow

* Treats Swelling, Edema, and Bruising.

athletic tape

* Very different from KinesioTape.

*More Common.

* Has a hard, almost cast-like, feel to it.

Commonly at Scheideman Chiropractic we use Athletic Tape for...

Ankles after a sprain.

Arches for Plantar Fasciitis.

Wrist/Thumb Combinations for Gymnasts/Football players.

Wrists For Gymnasts/Volleyball players.

Home Care
After KinesioTape Is Applied...

*Shower & Bathe as usual (simply
pat the tape dry with a towel).

* Do NOT rub with a towel. Do NOT Blow-Dry.

* Ice can be applied over the tape.

* The tape is not magnetic or medicated.
(However, a very small percentage of patients may experience sensitivity or allergic
reaction to the acrylic in the glue. Remove the tape, should any problems develop.)

* Should you need to take the tape off for any reason... SOAK IT in baby oil or olive oil and then peel back slowly.

* Leave the tape on as long as you can. It should begin to come off as the outer skin layer naturally sloughs off, about 2 to 6 days!
