Hello
It has been a real delight to meet the children and to get round all the classes this week and witness first hand the excited bustle of learning. Whether I’ve visited English lessons, Maths lessons, Music lessons or Games activities, there has been a real enthusiasm on display to be back in School and to be back to lessons.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you all, as parents, over the coming weeks, and in the meantime my door is always open should you wish to come and speak with me about anything. Schools are always a partnership between parents and staff, alongside the children, at the heart of everything we do, and I know that the outcomes for our children are so much stronger when we work closely together.
Of course, the end of the week has been tinged by the sadness of the news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, and we discussed and celebrated the life of the Queen in our assembly today, and will be ensuring that we help guide the children through this time of national mourning over the coming days.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Josh Holtby

ROAD SAFETY
Please can I also remind everyone of the importance of careful driving and vigilance when dropping off and picking up from School. Whether it is on the Crescent or on some of the local side roads, please do be aware that it only takes a moment of distraction for an accident to take place, and with so many of our children walking to school (unaccompanied in the Senior School and with their parents in the Junior School) we want to ensure they all have the safest of journeys. Thank you.

JEWELLERY IN SPORT
In accordance with our Jewellery Health and Safety Policy, we would like to remind parents that all jewellery must be removed for all PE, Swimming and Games lessons.
Earrings can be removed by the child at the start of the lesson and put back in after the lesson. If they are not yet able to do this themselves then please remove the earrings before they come to school.
Please note that if your child has recently had their ears pierced (within the last 6 weeks) and therefore cannot remove their earrings, they must be covered for the lesson using plasters that they can apply themselves. If they are unable to apply the plasters themselves, please apply the plasters at home before coming to school. Ensuring the whole earring is covered, front and back.
Why we ask for jewellery to be removed before participation in sport
We ask for jewellery to be removed to eliminate the risk of:
- Injury to your child
- Injury to others
- To avoid damage to the jewellery
- To avoid damage to sports equipment
Why we don’t allow taping the jewellery as a long-term solution
Whilst taping does remove some of the risk, it is not always a reasonable solution as there is still a risk present.

LIBRARY DISPLAY CHALLENGE
As part of our Library Display Challenge, we would like the children to make a picture or write an author profile which we will display in the Library on the walls.
Pictures should be inspired by a book and can be interpreted in any way. For example, children could copy a picture in an illustrated book, or use their own ideas to create a beautiful, crazy, fun, intricate or simple-but-effective picture which illustrates a story. Illustrations or diagrams that would complement with a non-fiction text would also be very welcome.
The pictures would be greatly enhanced with a small amount of (neat) writing explaining which book it relates to, and what inspired them.
If preferred, children could make a profile of their favourite author - again, this task can interpreted as you wish.
ALL WORK SHOULD BE FINISHED, CAREFULLY DONE, ATTRACTIVE AND LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S FIRST NAME AND YEAR GROUP.
