Citadel of Hue!
On February 24, 1968, the Citadel of the City of Hue was liberated by South Vietnamese troops, pushing the last PAVN/VC outside the Imperial City’s walls and signaling the end of the Tet Offensive. The City of Hue was the original Imperial Capitol of Vietnam and was especially significant to the North Vietnamese. The Battle for Hue began on January 31, 1968, when two battalions of PAVN infantry attacked the Citadel and the ARVN divisional headquarters. Ultimately 11,000 PAVN/VC troops would be committed to the battle. Because of the historical and cultural significance of the city, the US chose not to use artillery or air strikes to combat the enemy. Most of the fighting was close-quarters urban combat much like Seoul or Stalingrad. Once the PAVN began mounting anti-aircraft guns in the outer towers, the city was opened for air attack. Hue became the single bloodiest battle of the Vietnam War, and of the 160 original buildings in the Citadel, only 10 remained undamaged. In honor of these brave soldiers, at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we have put together a selection of kits from the Vietnam War. Or you can log in to kingshobby.com to see all the Cold War & Vietnam kits available from our virtual warehouse.
In honor of Black History Month, we'd also like to give a special salute to Gen. Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. and the Dynamic Duo; "Blackman & Robin" 8th TFW!
