A World of Tanks!
Emerging from the history and tactics of the cavalry; Hussars, Dragoons, and Cossacks grew into the armored formations that battled throughout the 20th Century. On March 24, 1943, Gen. George S. Patton, a cavalry officer, and armored fighting vehicle pioneer, made his combat debut as II Corp commander at the Battle of El Guettar. Patton bested Erwin Rommel’s No. 2, Hans-Jurgen von Arnim, by routing a 10th Panzer counter-attack, destroying 30 of the 50 tanks deployed, and introducing the devastating firepower of the M-10 Wolverine. On March 24, 2022, Russian forces enter the city of Mariupol. Strong Ukrainian resistance caused the Russian invasion to stall. Neither side has gained decisive momentum since, though almost exactly one year later, on March 7, Russian and Ukrainian forces clashed in what may be the largest tank battle of the war. In the Battle for Vuhledar over 120 Russian armored vehicles were destroyed. Airpower may be a decisive component of ultimate victory, but wars are still won by boots on the ground carried in mobile, powerful combined arms formations of infantry, armor, and artillery. So this week at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we feature armored fighting vehicles from around the world.
