What is new?

An impressive number of Eduard kits just cleared customs. Some have been discontinued for a while! A Bachmann container also arrived with long-awaited items. Two new Tamiya 2023 kits! Scalextric is on fire! A Scale75 restock is arriving, but no Kimeras on this one. Bandai/Gundam kits are always on fire!

The Iron Chef of Gundam Wing!

On May 19, 2017, an event took place unlike any other I am aware of; the melding of hobbies and food! I’m not talking about a modeler’s backyard BBQ, flying a “P-51” French fry into the mouth of a reluctant toddler, or even the Sherman-Tank-Birthday-Cake I sampled at a friend’s party. I have been to a Spaghetti Western that served spaghetti, but on May 19, 2017, in honor of the 20th Anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, the Gundam Café introduced a full menu of dishes created from the Gundam episodes; like little edible dioramas. These dishes were served throughout the “Return to Eternity Fair” from May 19 to July 10 and included commemorative coasters and shot glasses as keepsakes. Yes, never has there been such a blending of the two worlds. And where do we go from here? Carve a potato to look like a VW Microbus? Perhaps an I-400-shaped smoked sausage with little jalapeno M6A1s? Or a bento box that replicates the Iwo Jima invasion fleet? Or we could just go back to our P-51 french fries. Sadly, last January, all five Gundam Cafes closed for good. But this week at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we are showcasing our Gunpla selection in honor of the Gundam Café and their transcendent blending of food and plastic.
