America Deploys Advisors to Vietnam!
For most of 1961, the United States had been studying the situation in Vietnam. President Kennedy and his advisors had considered the recommendation of British counterinsurgency expert Robert Thompson to "clear and hold" villages to earn the loyalty of civilians as demonstrated in the anti-communist campaign in Borneo. This strategy is dramatically detailed in J.P. Cross' book, "A Face Like A Chicken's Backside". Ultimately, Kennedy would go with the search and destroy military sweeps, which have become synonymous with the war in Vietnam. And so, on November 18, 1961, President Kennedy authorized the deployment of 18,000 military advisors to South Vietnam. The United States was picking up where the French left off and, after twelve years, would have the same success in keeping Vietnam free of Communist rule. Many hard lessons were learned, and many fine soldiers were lost, but this conflict propelled the US military into the finest fighting force of the 21st Century. So at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we have put together a display commemorating those chaotic days in Vietnam. Or you can log in to kingshobby.com to see all the Cold War & Vietnam items available in our virtual warehouse.
