Good By USPS First Class, Welcome USPS Ground Advantage!
Over the last few weeks you might have noticed that the USPS First Class affordable shipping was gone for smaller packages under 1lbs. It has been discontinued and replaced with the better USPS Ground Advantage. And we are pleased as it is cheaper and supports shipping up to 70lbs. Feel free to take advantage of these new excellent rates.
Back To School w/ Baby Face Nelson!
On August 18, 1933 Lester "Baby Face Nelson" Gillis, with his BFF Eddie Bentz, robbed their first bank, the People's Savings Bank in Grand Haven, Michigan. This was not Baby Face's first crime, he had been sentenced to juvenile detention three times as a youth. It was not even his first bank robbery, he had been on other crews for other robberies, but this was the first time Nelson and Bentz were in charge. The robbery did not go anywhere near as planned, they only got $2,300, and two of the crew were apprehended. But they got away, and that taste of success cemented them into a life of crime, for the next 15 months, until Nelson was killed in a shoot out with FBI agents near Chicago. I just can't help think, "What if Nelson and Bentz had built a model, or raced a pinewood derby car, run a model train, or painted toy soldiers?" I believe what young people need is a project, a goal, and a taste of success to keep them in the right direction. This is why King's Hobby tries to be more than an oasis for the adult modeler, but a resource for our youth. We work with Jr. ROTC Units, BSA Scout Units, School Clubs, STEM Groups, and youth outreach groups like Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Council for At-Risk Youth. Because we believe the "Pipeline to Prison" is real and sometimes a hobby and a positive adult influence can make a difference.
