One Small Step For A Man!
At 2:00 AM on July 21, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human being to walk on the Moon. After years of preparation and five days of travel, mankind had reached the Moon. The three men on the Apollo 11 Mission had all been fighter pilots in the ‘50s; Armstrong flew F-9s in Korea, and Collins and Aldrin flew F-86s. Aldrin even had two kills. At the time, all astronauts were required to have been former test pilots, which Aldrin was not. But having a minimum of 2,000 hours in jets was allowed to substitute for this requirement, plus his doctorate degree in astronautics, and “Buzz” Aldrin was in. The Apollo Mission was a monumental undertaking involving thousands of people, but it culminated with these three men. After landing, Mission Control in Houston broadcast Kennedy's 1962 "Moon Speech" followed by the words "Task Accomplished, July 1969". From that point on, our culture, our art, our humor, and our hobbies have been changed forever. So this week at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we celebrate science fact, science fiction, and that gray area in between with a selection of kits inspired by that final frontier.
