Happy Birthday Not To The Corvette!
June 30, 1953, the first Corvette rolled off the Chevrolet assembly line. Designed by Harley Earl, the Corvette was GM’s answer to the European sports cars American GI’s were bringing home after WWII. The Corvette changed the American automotive industry, and after eight generations it is not only the only 2-seat American sports car still in production, but it has been elevated to the super-car class. But I have already written about the history of the Corvette in this newsletter, so today we are looking at “not-corvettes”. The 1953 Corvette was a concept car introduced at the GM Motorama. Interest was so great it was rushed into production, making it the most successful concept car ever. But by 1955 Ford introduced the Thunderbird, Studebaker the Speedster, and Chrysler the C-300. All were 2-seaters and built for speed. The C-300 was the most powerful with its 300 HP Firepower V-8 hemi, and it became very successful on the early NASCAR circuit. Every generation of Corvette has inspired imitators and rivals, so this week at King's Hobby Shop, 7801 N Lamar Blvd, Suite E-188 we have curated a collection of Not-Corvettes (and a few Corvettes) for your shopping pleasure. Or you can log in to kingshobby.com to see all the stunning car kits available in our virtual warehouse.
