bringing people and recovery together

Service-Driven. Sustainable. Socially Responsible.

These are the terms and are now the categories that our volunteers, staff and guests have been discussing over the past month.

Fully embracing the participatory process [with a nod to the success of Coffee Connections and Morning Reflections], we're ready to usher in warmer weather and longer days to get together and get busy at the Center, on our block and in the greater Community!

Sap Season Fundraiser: Fill that bucket!

Drop by drop, dollar by dollar, coin by coin - together we can do it!

We are kicking off our First Annual Sap Season Fundraiser to enhance the funds which support our Recovery & Recreation Activities and Events.

The number one self-identified desire [aside from basic human needs] in stabile recovery is "how do I have fun now?" Along with this comes "what do I like to do?", "where do I fit in?", "how do I do this sober?", "how do I do this without being labeled as 'in recovery'?".

Volunteering, Visiting a Museum, Exposure to a new potential hobby - Bowling, Softball, Hiking, Skiing, Gardening, Creating Art, Crafting - the list goes on. Our folks are eager to share their suggestions:

  • Can we volunteer to take care of our neighbors lawns this Spring/Summer? Especially those without tools or no longer able to care for their lawns the way they used to.
  • Can we sell things we make to the community at-large, to add to our Recovery Fund and feel like we're earning it, not just getting hand outs?
  • Can we really go places we used to? People remember me in active-use, it's super uncomfortable to even think about doing XYZ - it's 'off-limits'

Let's support these thoughts with ideas and invitations from community groups, private businesses and other socially responsible, good-neighboring allies and invest in those investing in themselves and giving back to the community that has supported them.

Black Balloon Day 2023

On March 6, across the United States families and loved ones remember and celebrate the lives lost to overdose. This day has become known as Black Balloon Day.

Black Balloon Day has become a national and international event, bringing awareness to overdose deaths. As with many things with the opioid epidemic, Black Balloon Day began with a family’s loss.

Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. Addiction is driving this epidemic. Americans are more likely to die of an opioid overdose than they are from a car accident or by a gun.

Black Balloon Day helps create awareness around the important issue of providing support to those struggling with substance use disorder and their loved ones.

On Monday, March 6, Black Balloons were on display and cards were available to fill out for first responders, family and friends, or to leave as a support for someone coming in for services related to losing a loved one to substance-related passing.

[parents in recovery program]

Check out our new logo! "People in early recovery may be viewed like trees," shares Arial Beaulac, Parents in Recovery Program Coordinator. "Our recovery and self is our trunk. The support, family, higher power are our roots, the branches are the things we regain in recovery and the leaves are the beautiful moments we get to experience.

The parents in recovery program helps support the trunk - while folks are restoring and strengthening their own trunk, and growing back branches. We help support people to continue to grow into their trunk and see the leaves bloom with success."

Last month the Parents in Recovery Program had a wonderful turnout for our self-care event making body scrubs. This month, we will be celebrating St Patrick's Day with a fun art activity. Things are picking up with Spring and we look forward to continued community collaborations to help our program go to support the parents in our community.

Suggestions or Ideas that you would like to see incorporated into this program? To share or to learn more, Program Coordinator Arial Beaulac welcomes your email or call.

Coffee Sponsors Welcome!

As many of us well know, a lot can happen over a single cup of coffee... feelings shared, bonds formed, trust built and burdens lightened (momentarily, of course).

Each month, we brew over 500 cups of hope-infused coffee for an average of 15 guests, Monday through Friday (an average of 42 pots). This number will increase as hours expand, creating an opportunity for connection and community.

You, your business or community group are invited to become a Coffee Sponsor supplying 30-days of coffee connection for only $75.00.

This sponsorship includes:

  • Signage About Your Business and a customized posted message for the month in the Coffee Area
  • Social Media shout-outs throughout the month
  • Logo as a sponsor for the remainder of the year on our corporate communications and website
  • 5 lbs+ of Bold Ambition Moxxi Coffee
  • Coffee Filters
  • Sugar and Sweeteners
  • REAL Creamer (a step up from powder!)

Ready to connect and contribute? Contact Fawn Montanye today.

[fun fact]
