The Virtue of Docility
Definition: Willingness to be taught

DOCILITY LOOKS LIKE:

  • Being taught by someone else
  • Listening to another person
  • Listening to and thinking about another person’s idea or opinion
  • Taking correction peacefully
  • Willing to listen to directions

DOCILITY SOUNDS LIKE:

  • Thank you for teaching me.
  • I will listen to you.
  • What do you think about this?
  • I am sorry. I will try not to do that again.
  • Yes, I am listening.

FEATURED SCRIPTURE:

"Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for thy servant hears."

1 SAMUEL 3:1-10
St. Juan Diego
When the Spanish settlers came to Mexico in the 1500s, missionaries came with them. At first not very many Aztec Indians converted to the faith, but Juan did, and he was very eager to learn about his new faith. He would walk for miles to go to Mass. One day while walking, he heard the voice of a woman calling him. She asked him to tell the bishop to build her a shrine. When Juan went to him, the bishop asked for a sign. Juan Diego returned to the hill and found roses there, even though it was winter. The Lady arranged them in his cloak. When Juan showed the roses to the bishop, a miraculous image of the Lady was on his cloak. A shrine was built there to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and millions of people were converted.

OUR LADY OF GOOD HEALTH
“O Lady of Good Health,

our Merciful Father chose you to be a powerful intercessor in times of trouble and woe.
As in past centuries when you have ended contagious diseases, we implore you now to end the Coronavirus which is damaging the health of many and spreading fear in our communities.
Teach us not to be afraid, to be courageous and generous in offering assistance to others, and to live joyfully in the state of grace.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”
