The Virtue of Magnanimity

Also known as: Benevolence

DEFINITION OF MAGNANIMITY:
Seeking with confidence to do great things in God; literally “having a large soul”

MAGNANIMITY LOOKS LIKE:
  • Having an awareness of the goodness of God in yourself
  • Complimenting someone else when you wanted to be recognized
  • Offering every action to God for His glory
  • Making sacrifices for God
  • Seeking with confidence to do great things for God

MAGNANIMITY SOUNDS LIKE:
  • At baptism, I received God’s grace and became His child.
  • You did a great job! Congratulations!
  • All for the greater glory of God! Jesus, offer this day to you.
  • I want to do great things for God. I will make that sacrifice.
  • Mother Mary, I want to love Jesus with all my heart like you did.

FEATURED SCRIPTURE:

But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
Hebrews 10:32-34

St. Turibius of Mongrovejo
Turibius was a law professor in Spain when the pope unexpectedly named him the archbishop of Lima, Peru. Turibius had not even been ordained a priest yet!
When Bishop Turibius went to Peru, he discovered poverty and lack of education throughout the country. He determined to right this, and over the next seven years he visited every parish in his diocese, traveling alone over thousands of miles of jungle territory. He led a reform among the priests, printed catechisms in the natives’ language, and made the sacraments available to all in his diocese.

Announcement from the 2021-22
Head of School
Dear Royal Palm Academy Family,

On April 14, 2021, the Florida Department of Education Commissioner of Education, Richard Corcoran, issued a letter encouraging all schools to transition from a "mandatory face coverings" policy to a "voluntary face coverings" policy for the 2021-2022 school year.

Therefore, in consultation with our RPA Board, I am pleased to announce that Royal Palm Academy will be "face coverings optional" for all students for the 2021-2022 school year, and for all summer programs held at RPA this summer.

It is important to note that this does not change the current safety plan in effect for the current 2020-2021 school year.

I imagine that with this announcement, you have many questions. I also recognize that there are strong feelings on this issue, as it relates to the health and safety of our children. As a father of two young children, I understand that keeping our children healthy and safe is our most important function. Therefore, I ask for your patience to give me the time to collaborate with our administrative leadership team, so that we may develop a measured, responsible, and healthy plan for all of our children for the summer and school year 2021-2022.

Sincerely,

Michael Bussman

OUR LADY OF GOOD HEALTH
“O Lady of Good Health,

our Merciful Father chose you to be a powerful intercessor in times of trouble and woe.
As in past centuries when you have ended contagious diseases, we implore you now to end the Coronavirus which is damaging the health of many and spreading fear in our communities.
Teach us not to be afraid, to be courageous and generous in offering assistance to others, and to live joyfully in the state of grace.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”
