The idea of the Homeless Prevention Center began in 1994 when several social service agencies in Rutland came together to discuss a rise in homelessness among individuals and families. These organizations formed the Rutland County Continuum of Care with the goal of ensuring that all people in our community have access to safe, affordable, and permanent housing. In 1999 we became the Rutland County Housing Coalition (RCHC). And in 2014, we changed our name to the Homeless Prevention Center (HPC) to better reflect our mission and role in the community.
Our services include anything from rental assistance to helping people manage challenges in their life that affect their housing. Here are some of the more specific programs we provide: Transitional Housing, Landlord Liaison, Rapid Rehousing, Outreach & Housing Navigation for Youth.
In the last year, our organization has worked with 547 people in 249 households – some are enrolled in longer-term case management, and others need only a light touch, such as help with a security deposit, a housing search, or restoring a benefit. Our dedicated workers at HPC are standing by, always ready to help when needed. Learn more about the Homeless Prevention Center & how you can help!
