The Kirwan Commission, after three years of meetings and reports, concluded its work. The ambitious plan seeks to bring Maryland schools to a “world class” level, with multiple new initiatives. The report will anchor a much-awaited debate in the 2020 legislative session, with a multitude of stakeholders invested in its policy and fiscal consequences.

Xfinity X1 Eye Control is recognized by TIME as one of the Best Inventions of 2019. With eye control, Xfinity X1 customers with physical disabilities can use their eyes to change the channel, set a recording or search for a show.

To assemble the 2019 TIME Best Inventions list, TIME solicited nominations across a variety of categories from editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online application process. Each contender was then evaluated on key factors, including originality, effectiveness, ambition and influence.
