What a week it has been.
I have long said that if I wasn't a rabbi, I'd be a farmer.
I think this week ended any illusions I had about farming.
Amy and I volunteered this week with Israel Food Rescue (IFR), which began in the Fall in order to assist struggling farmers in Israel given the war. Between Israelis called up for reserve duty and foreign workers returning to their countries of origin and Palestinians unable to enter the country (from the West Bank and Gaza), the typical agricultural labor pool plummeted mightily. Though many foreign workers stayed and many have returned, Palestinians remain unable to enter for work and a massive amount of crops have gone to waste with spring and summer planting lagging behind.

Acclaimed author, journalist, teacher Yossi Klein Halevi will be speaking on "How October 7 Changed Israel and the Jewish World." This evening is hosted by our congregation joined with CBI of Southbury, the Jewish Federation of Western CT, the Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life, United Jewish Center of Danbury, and Temple Beth David of Cheshire.
