New Trends

While we are all spending more time at home, you might feel like your house needs an update. Here are some new trends, some are easy weekend projects, and some are more labor intensive.

Gray is Out
Gray paint has been one of the most popular trends these past few years. From cold gray to greiges, this trend has been the neutral go to color for many home owners. But according to designers beige is coming back. This warmer hue is a classic neutral. Beige is a softer more natural color. Calming colors in  paint, flooring and even cabinet tones are the new hot look.

Black Paint is the New Neutral
Black walls make a statement. Designers are now adding black to the list of  neutral colors. The great thing about using such a vivid color in a room is a little goes a long way. You can paint one wall as an accent and still get the updated feel. Bathrooms are the most popular room to try out a bold color.

Mid Century Modern
This classic retro style has become a major trend in home lighting and accessories. Mid century modern is known for clean lines, natural wood, and organic curves. Shows like Mad Men have showcased this style. Vintage, eclectic styles are becoming more popular.

Walls are Back In

Open floor plans have been the normal standard for new construction since the 1990's, but things are starting to change.  Though it is a popular floor plan it comes with disadvantages. Home owners are realizing with a total open floor plan they have to be very organized and tidy, otherwise the house can appear cluttered. There is also no where to go for quiet reading or working from home.  Some of the advantages to an open floor plan is it is easier to watch children for young families, there is lots of shared light to inner spaces, spaces are more multi-functional.
Designing a house with more walls also comes with advantages. Home owners are loving the privacy that they have in the kitchen with a wall separating that room from the rest of the house. They no longer have to worry about having a cluttered kitchen when entertaining friends and family. Sound control is an added bonus to having more walls. With more walls there is more space to hang up art work and family pictures to personalize a home. With more people working from home, having a quiet separate room to call their office is a new must have.

1 and 1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Crumble Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick butter cut into cubes

Preheat oven to 375 F.
In a large bowl mix all the filling ingredients together. In another bowl, mix the flour and salt and add in the cubed butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly. Grease a 9x13 baking pan and pour the filling mixture into it. Sprinkle the crumble mixture on top, try to do this evenly. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown. This is delicious served with vanilla ice cream.
