KHS is the Recipient of Several Generous, Lifesaving Grants
Over the last few months, Kitsap Humane Society has become the recipient of the generosity of like-minded organizations to create a more humane world for animals of all shapes and sizes in our community.

A $50,000 pet lifesaving grant from Petco Love will be used to support services given to animals in need, including but not limited to veterinary care, canine and feline enrichment, stocking food and supplies, and more.

The Grey Muzzle Organization awarded KHS $10,000 to supplement KHS’s existing adoptions, foster, transfer, and veterinary service programs through the Supporting Our Seniors that will help increase the number of positive outcomes and services offered to senior dogs and families of senior dogs.

Kitsap Humane Society was awarded $3,500 from The Washington Federation of Animal Care and Control Agencies and $10,250 from the Bainbridge Community Foundation to support our Low-Cost Spay/Neuter program with the goal of reducing pet overpopulation and offering spay/neuter services to low-income families. Bainbridge Community Foundation's grant is also supporting the KHS Foster Care program.

Thank you to all of these dedicated and charitable organizations for supporting our pet lifesaving mission!

Emergency Preparedness
We all remember when toilet paper and hand sanitizer were a rare find last year! Being prepared in the event of a disaster is critical - and remembering our furry family members as we prepare is just as important!

KHS foster graduate Yumyan Hammerpaws recently starred in an emergency preparedness PSA with his foster family where they remind us what to keep in mind when preparing and planning for emergencies.
Happy's Tail
This past December, one small pup met a family that would change his life forever... Now, he's ready to share the ultimate Happy Tail... Happy's Happy Tail!

Previously named Comet at KHS, Happy was adopted just days before Christmas. Since then, Happy has enjoyed morning cuddles, hammock snoozes, and lots of walks where he meets new friends!

"Happy looooves to snuggle with us," said his adopter. "Every morning, he takes a nice long snuggle with me before I go to work, then he lounges about with my partner while I’m away.

"Happy talks when he yawns, is obsessed with the shower (and tries to get in every time his humans are in there) and he loves eggs as a special treat.

"Happy is the best thing that has happened to us. We didn’t know we could love a dog this much, and he is the first dog we've ever had. He has opened our hearts, and he feels just like family."

Want the chance to have your pet’s Happy Tail featured on our Facebook and Instagram accounts?

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Monique Summers!
After serving in multiple animal charities over the last 30 years, Monique has found her home volunteering with KHS. Since beginning here nearly 5 and a half years ago, she has been diligent in building upon her skillset and never stops gaining new tools to make the most impact and change possible within our organization.

Initially, Monique was involved in events but quickly became inspired to do more through her deep love and dedication for dogs. She joined the dog walking program and has clocked some serious hours on the trails with our doggies! Wanting to be even more of service to the canines in our care, she spent many years assisting the adoptions team, finding the perfect fit and forever homes for so many.

Monique has given 1,458 hours of service to the animals in our care and all that hard work has paid off. Not only has she joined the ranks of fellow top dog volunteers, by becoming our newest Lead Dog Walker, but she has also gone above and beyond by inviting a shy dog who had been struggling to adjust to shelter life some respite, by allowing her to be a foster guest in her home.
The transformation for this dog has been life-changing and we all know it absolutely would not have been possible without such kindness.

Thank you, Monique, for your generosity and gentle spirit! Your big heart has changed so many lives!
