Improvements are on the way for Kiwanis Challenge Park!

The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs are pleased to announce improvements to Kiwanis Challenge Park, located at 2002 NW 36th Ave.

Improvements will be completed in two phases:

Phase 1 involves the installation of concrete pads to house two ADA-compliant picnic tables and six benches. This phase will also include the removal of asphalt walkways, a concrete long jump course and the shotput cage. The park will close on Thursday, Dec. 12, and is expected to reopen in early January.

Phase 2 includes the resurfacing of the track. This work will begin in late February and will take approximately two weeks. The park will be closed while the work on the track is being completed. Close to the time of the track’s resurfacing, the picnic tables and benches are expected to arrive. The park will not need to be closed for the installation.

AKEA Inc. was awarded the work through a competitive bid process for $246,000, funded by the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax.
