Choose Love Movement - Promoting Hope, Healing & Connection | |
Scarlett Lewis founded the nonprofit Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement in honor of her son, Jesse, who was murdered during the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in December 2012. Shortly after his death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues that we’re seeing in our society — that also caused the tragedy — and turned it into an opportunity to build a culture of love, resilience, forgiveness, and connection in our communities at a time when it is needed the most.

In 2015, William McMorris became our youngest-ever member, joining the club as soon as he turned 18 and became eligible. William was a faithful and contributing member (William is on the left at the 2016 Memorial Day Weekend Fair) until the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Now married and with Weston-native, Becca, they are proud parents of a three-and-a-half-year-old, Belle. William wants to resume his Kiwanis membership. His committee preference is Community Service.
The board admitted William by unanimous written consent earlier this week. William's sponsor is his father, Jim McMorris, and he is our first third-generation Weston Kiwanian. William's grandfather was Jim's father-in-law, Fred Schneider. Fred was a member from 1995 until he died in 2017. Fred was president in 2003/2004. Fred's wife, Shirley, joined in 2014 and was a member until her death, also in 2017. Fred is our only member recognized with a Ruby K 50 award; Fred is credited with recruiting 52 new members to the club.
With William's admission, we have 64 members in our club. The Kiwanis Club of Weston is ranked 1 out of 131 in the Kiwanis New England and Bermuda District for net growth year-to-date (net gain of 7 members). We are ranked 16 out of 131 in our district for percentage growth (12.3%) so far in 2024/2025.

It's a slow week for news here at Kiwaniscope. Kiwaniscope usually doesn't publish members' X-rays, but it is making an exception for this one, which Kiwaniscope requested after seeing on a member's phone at last week's breakfast meeting.
See what you might miss if you miss a meeting? How's this for a bone spur?
