MEMBERS’ MILESTONES
Martin Mohabeer's birthday is Monday, and Michael Schwartz earns another candle on Wednesday. Happy birthday, Martin and Michael!

Take a journey to the top of the world with adventurer and Westport resident Michael Hehenberger Dipl. Ing. Ph.D. Dr. Sc.
Since his boyhood climbing the Austrian Alps, Dr. Hehenberger has pursued his fascination with mountain peaks and ranges worldwide. His talk and slide presentation will focus on his latest trip in May to see K2 in the Karakoram mountain range, the second-highest mountain on earth, and Nanga Parbat, the westernmost Himalayan peak and the ninth-highest mountain on Earth.

Back closer to sea level, Michael spends his time as a physicist and quantum chemist. Dr. Hehenberger led academic and industry research partnerships in computational chemistry, biology, and engineering during his career. His projects focused on molecular biology, information-based medicine, pharmaceutical research, nanomedicine, and AI.
In 2013, he retired from IBM to write books and speak at conferences. His first book, “Nanomedicine: Science, Business, and Impact,” covers the underlying science and the steps needed to take a new biomedical breakthrough from concept to patient benefit. Recent presentations at international conferences included talks on “Big Data Analytics,” “AI – History and Possible Future,” “Quantum Information and Computing,” and “High Mountain Adaptations in Humans and Animals.”

WELCOME OUR NEWEST KIWANIAN, DAVE BURNS | |
|
The board admitted Dave Burns to membership at its meeting last Saturday. Dallas Kersey met Dave on election day at the polls. In conversation, Dallas learned that Dave had been looking for opportunities to serve and give back, and Dallas recommended Kiwanis to him. Dave remembered Dallas's recommendation when reading Town Hall Happenings recently, and the rest is history.
Dave will be inducted at a future meeting when he and his sponsor, Dallas, can be present, probably at the annual meeting on January 6.
