Weston resident Tahbaz, pictured on the screen, was one of the five Americans freed by Iran in a prisoner swap in September.

ANSWER
1915 -The first Kiwanis club was established in Detroit, Michigan.
1924 Specific requirements for Kiwanis membership, including male gender, were established and inserted into the constitution and bylaws.
| |
January 1984 In answer to the include-females issue, Kiwanis began to charter Kiwanianne clubs, a service group for wives and widows of Kiwanians. Within the first year, more than 1,500 women joined.
July 1987 Delegates at the 72nd Annual Kiwanis International Convention voted to amend the constitution and bylaws to allow women to join Kiwanis clubs.
March 1993 The Kiwanis Club of Weston admitted Judi Freedman to membership. (You may know the name - as our state senator, Judi cosponsored a bill with Weston Kiwanis charter member John Stripp two years later that established Green Up Day as the first Saturday in April.)
May 2015 Members elected Dawn Egan as the first of three women so far to serve the club as president. Dawn was followed in 2021 by Denise Murillo and in 2023 by Amy Jenner.
February 2024 Today we have our third woman president, and 25% (17 of 68) of our members are women!
