LAST NIGHT

Kiwanis Club of Weston Past-president Steve Thomas was named the Town of Weston Board of Police Commissioners Citizen of the Year at a ceremony at town hall last night.

The annual award goes to someone “with unwavering dedication, leadership, and selflessness” whose contributions have made a tangible difference in the lives of residents while exemplifying the spirit of community and civic responsibility.”

Steve and Vicki invited all Kiwanians to join in an open house at their residence to celebrate Steve's well-deserved recognition following the ceremony.

Congratulations Steve. You embody the ideals of Kiwanis and inspire us all.

LAST WEEK

Greg Van Antwerp, historian, writer, and seeker of hidden history entertained and educated guests and Kiwanis members at the breakfast meeting last Saturday.

Greg exhibited examples of his finds via a “traveling” museum, while explaining the significance of each and how they were uncovered. We all got to hold a piece of mosaiic tile concrote that we learned was a soldier's souveneir from The "Eagle's Nest" (Kehlsteinhaus in German), a building in Bavaria, Germany, constructed under the Nazi regime a It was one of the last remaining Nazi strongholds apart from Berlin. Capturing it was a symbolic victory for the Allies towards the end of World War II.

Greg shares his adventures in a regular podcast called “Stories from the Attic” available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

Greg is currently an elected trustee of the New Milford Historical Society. He can be reached via the website www.foundastory.com Email: historyhunter411@gmail.com Phone: (203) 994-8382

This program was arranged by Program Committee Chairs Karen Chrisley and Lisa Wexler.
