RESERVOIR RUN FLYER DISTRIBUTION
by Dan Gilbert
We were two groups of Airborne Rangers. We left the Norfield Church parking lot at 7 AM on Saturday and 7:30 AM on Sunday. [The following is Dan's submission to Weston Today.]
Weston Kiwanis Club members attended the Fairfield Road Races’ half marathon and 5K events over the June 3-4 weekend. The events’ organizers projected that the races would host approximately 6,000 runners. Steve Thomas, Tom Johnson, Reed Ameden, Woody Bliss, Alex Burns, and Dan Gilbert distributed Reservoir Run flyers. Kiwanis club members will distribute flyers at eight Fairfield County races throughout the summer and fall of this year. Flyer distribution helps the club solicit runners and sponsors for its fall Reservoir Run half marathon/5K races.
|
|
Net proceeds of the Reservoir Run go to the Kiwanis Club of Weston Foundation, Inc, a 501(c)(3) for disadvantaged youth services. Kids in Crisis will be the primary beneficiary of the half marathon. Proceeds from the 5K go to the Weston Boosters Club for use in the Captain and Club Leadership programs at Weston High School.
Weston Kiwanis is dedicated to serving children. Through a combination of community service and philanthropy, the club supports worthy causes in Weston and neighboring communities. The club has donated over $850,000 since 2000 to help children. Weston Kiwanis meets each Saturday at the Norfield Church Parish Hall. Meetings begin at 8:30 AM. If you’re interested in helping neighbors you may want attend a meeting.

ANNUAL DUES INVOICES ARE TO BE EMAILED ON JULY 1
by Bob Uzenoff
I will email your annual dues invoices on July 1. It will be due by the end of July. You can pay online by a link in the email notice or pay by check by mail.
On July 10, I will print and postal mail invoices to members who still need to open their invoices. After that, I will email and postal mail statements to members with an unpaid balance on August 1 and again on September 1, if necessary. As you may know, postal rates for a first-class letter go up to 66¢ July 9. With postage, window envelope, paper, and printer ink, it costs over $50 to send all 74 of us an invoice in the mail, not to mention better than an hour of my time. Last year I spent about $100 from our general operating account on postage and supplies to collect members’ dues. I and the general operating account will appreciate your prompt payment.

COFFEE, JUICE, AND PASTRY $5
Members approved an increase in the cost of the coffee, juice, and pastry option from $4, set in 2015, to $5, effective in September, at the club meeting last week. The price of a complete breakfast is unchanged at $10. President-designate Amy, in making the motion, said it was more about making change easier and faster for our treasurer than the money.
