LAST SATURDAY

Last Saturday, we discussed a planned Community Service Committee event in conjunction with Weston Volunteer EMS for the benefit of the community: a hands-on life-saving training event, Stop the Bleed®.

Joining us at the meeting were Michael J. Vincelli, CHS IV, FABCHS, DABCHS, CNTA, CHPP, (left) a Certified Stop the Bleed® instructor, and Tom Janson, JD, EMT-P, EMS-I, Captain and Training Officer with Weston Volunteer EMS, a beneficiary of our 2025 Reservoir Run Half Marathon.

We discussed how Kiwanis can produce a successful Stop the Bleed® training for the public. We'll discuss further and identify a date and this Saturday's business meeting.

STOP THE BLEED® is a national campaign that empowers bystanders to learn how to control life-threatening bleeding in emergencies before professional medical help arrives. It's essentially a "CPR for bleeding," teaching simple, yet effective, techniques to stop the flow of blood.

After Greg Van Antwerp's LinkedIn page.

In 2009, I spent a lot of time surfing the net, reading the text of bloggers, and wondering how they did it. As a New Year's resolution, I started my blog and developed some social media skills.

It wasn't hard to come up with a topic; I've been visiting estate, garage, tag sales my whole life. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed the thrill of a unique discovery. Who doesn't?

I have never embraced reselling my discoveries. I find greater satisfaction in finding the story behind the object, looking for its significance, and then re-telling.

Having had a career managing community projects allowed me to connect with groups and organizations that value local history and culture. It has also helped to support my passion for weekend journeys and the search for good stories.

I now work with estate sale companies and homeowners to uncover and document events and notable accomplishments before they are tossed or sold. This is my best source for live performance content.

My goal is to keep on searching... to find forgotten history, lost items and unsung heroes, to preserve, share and educate.

This is Urban Archeology.

NEWS

KIWANIAN NAMED CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Kiwaniscope has learned that the Town of Weston Board of Police Commissioners has selected from among the nominees, Kiwanis Club of Weston Past President Steve Thomas, to be named Citizen of the Year.

The annual award goes to someone “with unwavering dedication, leadership, and selflessness” whose contributions have made a tangible difference in the lives of residents while exemplifying the spirit of community and civic responsibility.”

Steve will be officially recognized in a ceremony at the town hall at six o'clock on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The public is welcome to attend. Kiwaniscope invites all Kiwanians to consider joining in celebrating Steve's well-deserved recognition.

NEW GOVERNANCE APPROVED

Completing the first major update of Weston Kiwanis' governance since 2013, Kiwanis International has approved amended club bylaws and foundation bylaws, which the members adopted at the annual club and foundation meetings on May 3.

A major aim for more efficient and agile governance was to right-size and align the composition and terms of each corporation's boards of elected officers and directors.

The club and foundations will now each have a president, immediate past president, president-elect, treasurer, secretary, and three directors with one-year terms, and many, but not all, of the board members will be in common.

The Bylaws Committee, which reported its recommendations to the members for adoption at the annual meetings, consisted of Bill Brady, Keith Johnson, Debbie Rose, and Bob Uzenoff.

Links to the current bylaws are and other member content are available on the MEMBERS page of our website.
