Weston Kiwanians of a certain age remember Casey Lerner's induction as a junior honorary member on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
Fast-forward 13 years. Last Saturday, Casey, now a sophomore at Western Connecticut State University, was recently internationally recognized for his art in two magazines. Casey spoke extemporaneously before his guest preaching on his life journey at Norfield Congregational Church the next day.

Story and photographs by Harry Falber
Once again, Kiwanis is helping grow the capabilities and creative output of the Lachat Town Farm at the Juliana Lachat Preserve on Godfrey Road West.
As Lachat continues to push the edge of its creative output for the community, with the help of Steve Thomas and Harry Falber, the Daniel E. Offett III Education Center at the Juliana Lachat Preserve has been transformed into a full off-Broadway theater with seating for 150.
Steve designed and built Harry’s vision of Broadway-quality tiered seating for Lachat’s latest production, “Seared,” and all future theater productions, giving perfect sight lines for every attendee.
| |
This first production takes us to a kitchen in The Slope, a restaurant in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, for a dark comedy of what restaurant life is like. Steve even made the restaurant’s name sign, The Slope, welcoming diners into this tiny corner of Brooklyn dining. | |
|
Opening tomorrow, Friday, March 7, and running for three weekends, Steve has built, with additional volunteer help, Weston’s first real theater since the Weston High School auditorium. Steve designed this with ease of setup and takedown between productions in mind.
“Seared” is a show you don’t want to miss, with theater seating that transforms the education center into a center for the theater and music arts.
Kiwanis’ impact is felt throughout our community, with Steve often leading the way.
