The Herd Hope is a youth-led organization that focuses on empowering young people to fundraise for elephants. We operate on the dual mission of teaching teenagers vital leadership skills for fundraising, and promoting a safer future for elephants.
So far, we’ve raised $3,550 for elephant sanctuaries like The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, which I visited in 2024 and sparked my passion for protecting elephants. From then, my friends have joined, and together we’ve led fundraisers and spread our vision to branches in New York and Nigeria.
We’re also so grateful for local support like that of Friends of Lachat Town Farm, which has allowed us to fundraise at their farmers markets and EcoFest! We’ve recently expanded our mission to include our education outreach program, which is the community presentations we’ve started to organize.
Our goal by next summer is to raise $10,000 to support elephant conservation and start five more branches. Finally, we’re planning a bake sale for the end of October, which we will be posting more about on our Instagram (@theherdhope) soon!

Help Registration Push - Ridgefield or Greenwich Sunday morning early?
by Harry Spencer
In three days, this Sunday, we have two great opportunities o promote the Reservoir Run, and I need your help.
I ordered 1,000 Reservoir Run business cards and need a few volunteers (two teams, of three or four people each) to help pass cards out EARLY Sunday morning to runners attending the following two events:
|
-
Ridgefield Road Fest 50th Anniversary (half marathon, 7-mile, and 5K). Need to be at Ridgefield Boys & Girls Club at 6:30 a.m.; so meet at Norfield and carpool from there at 6:00 a.m.) We depart Ridgefield at 7:15 am for return to Weston and to enjoy our Sunday.
- 2) HSS Greenwich Half Marathon Need to arrive in Greenwich Point Park by 6:30 a.m., so meet at Norfield and carpool from there at 5:50 a.m. Depart Greenwich at 7:30am for return to Weston and to enjoy our Sunday.
Please email me and let me know if you can help do this and make a difference.

No experience required. Simply SMILE and hand out cards about Reservoir Run. 😊
Thank you in advance for volunteering!
Happily, Harry

Not able to be quiet about Past President Frank Ferrara's ever-lengthening locks, Immediate Past President Harry Spencer in a not-so-subtle suggestion, presents Frank with a hairband as Past President Bill Brady and Past Lieutenant Governor Reg Bowden looks on.
For Frank's part, he may be tiring of comments like
• Your shoulders threw a party, and your hair was the first to arrive.
• Your hair is longer than your future.
to which Frank replies:
• At least I have good hair on my head—most men just have theirs slowly migrating south to their ears, nose, and back.
• It’s not a haircut; it’s a revelation of my true self
