LAST WEEK

Reservoir Run

By President Tom Watson

The 13th Annual Weston Kiwanis Reservoir Run half marathon and 5K foot races and kids fun run, our signature fundraiser, were a resounding success this past Sunday, October 13, 2024.

A hearty contingent of Kiwanians were up early, staffing all aspect of the event, which ended up in bright and sunny skies on a beautiful fall morning.

We can’t recognize all the efforts going into making this event happen in this article, however special call-outs are necessary for:

  • Paul Schultz and Phyllis Gary for their leadership and organization and hours behind the scenes to make the event what it was.
  • Steve Thomas and Frank Ferrara for engineering course safety and water stations.
  • Karen Chrisley for managing the Kids Fun Run, with many last minute registrants.
  • Jim McMorris for again being the backbone of our computer registration and vast compilation of photos.
  • Dan Gilbert and the flyer distribution team for all the handouts which led to the registration of many runners.
  • Amy Jenner, Dallas Kersey, Reed Ameden and Keith Johnson for securing sponsorships.
  • Dawn Egan for helping facilitate our volunteers within the high school and helping with the town regarding the race course.
  • Harry Spencer, Dave Burns, and Hutch were also all over the place, including doing a great amount of after race work to organize materials at Norfield Congregational Church.

This year’s event had 171 half marathoners, 301 5K runners (a record), and 25 kids runners, for a total of 497 participants. The proceeds of this event will support children in our community through our Kiwanis Club of Weston Foundation.
