KIWANIS PRESENCE AT TOWN FARM'S FESTIVAL
After the club meeting last Saturday, Weston Kiwanis had a presence at Lachat Town Farm's celebration of the global diversity in our community through an International Festival and Market, which provided an opportunity for residents with ties around the globe to flaunt their cultural roots, showcasing the many countries that make up our community.
Dave Weber and Tom Glass not only staffed our booth, as did Jesse DiPasquale and Harry Falber but Dave and Tom worked on set up. Jesse's sons helped with property clean up and distributed Reservoir Run and "Invite to Breakfast" flyers to attendees on the property.
Karen Chrisley worked the Lachat visitor sign-in desk and with Dan Lerner, helped on post-event Lachat clean up. Steve Thomas was at the booth, and Rone Baldwin supervised the parking for Lachat.
Story and photographs contributed by Harry Falber.

RESERVOIR RUN FLYER DISTRIBUTION
Last Sunday, before the club meeting, our club’s Reservoir Run Flyer Distribution Team was on the road again. On a beautiful, sunny fall morning, five club members left the Norfield Church parking lot and headed to South Norwalk. Bill Flanagan, Dan Gilbert, Ed Hutchins, Tom Johnson, and Steve Thomas distributed flyers at the Garavel SoNo Half Marathon/5K (Veteran’s Park). To date, we distributed flyers at the Mark Twain Half Marathon (Redding), Weston’s Memorial Day Weekend 5K, the Fairfield Road Races (Half Marathon/5K), the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, and the Garavel SoNo Half Marathon/5K. On tap is the Pamby Ridgefield Half Marathon (October 22). Flyer distribution is one of our club’s most effective ways to recruit sponsors and runners.
From left to right, Steve Thomas, Bill Flanagan, Tom Johnson, and Ed Hutchins are pictured in the photo.
Story and photograph by Dan Gilbert.
| Yesterday was a beautiful day, and Steve Thomas found Paul Schultz and Phyllis Gary taking an inventory of Reservoir Run signs at Norfield Church's historic carriage barn, where they are stored between events. Sign must be produced every year for new sponsors or to replace damaged or missing signs. |
Harr Falber posted the Breakfast On Us flyer we distributed at Lachat on four Facebook groups - Dads in Weston, Parents in Weston, Weston Connecticut Bulletin Board, and Weston CT Bulletin Board Unedited.
Harry considers this an initial test to broaden our outreach to the greater Weston community to reach newer, younger residents in what would be one part of a membership drive.

IMPROVING THE WORLD ONE CHILD AND ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME
THE KIWANIS MISSION
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis clubs and individual Kiwanians complete the mission in a variety of ways, and as they are able. Kiwaniscope in this space will celebrate the many ways the Kiwanis Club of Weston and its members are living the Kiwanis mission.
In recent issues, Kiwaniscope celebrates the service of Past President Rick Amill's reading this year to teacher Katie DeFranco’s first-grade students at Thomas Hooker Elementary School K-8 school in Bridgeport.
Nearby, you see a thank you note to Rick from a grateful first grader at the end of this year's classes.
Rick has read at Thomas Hooker at least two times per month for more than seven years
In the past, Rick has read at various grade levels at two other elementary schools in Bridgeport, plus at the district-wide Read Aloud Day.
