8:30 a.m. Breakfast meeting with program; Vicky McCarthy with SavATree 

Connecticut-licensed arborist Vicky McCarthy, through a brief presentation, will encourage attendees to consult with an arborist, as we're all stewards of our environment. Vicky and her fellow ISA-certified arborist Nick Pringuer will answer your questions on tree work, tree and shrub health and disease concerns, pollinating insect questions, or they can even look at samples or photos that you bring, as time allows, or make time after the meeting. 

Vicky is an Advanced Master Gardener and beekeeper. She lives in Marion with her husband of 34 years and their son. She is a beekeeper, garden designer, and enjoys entertaining friends and family, skiing and golfing.

MEMBERS APPROVE 2025/2026 CALENDAR

Members approved the 2025/2026 calendar at last week's breakfast and business meeting. One notable change from recent years is an amendment, proposed by President-elect-designate Harvey and passed, which moves future club and foundation board meetings from regular Saturday morning club breakfast meetings. The timing and location of future board meetings will be established.

You can view the most recent club calendar information by visiting CALENDAR/EVENTS (menu position, key 1 in the nearby picture). It always has the most recent information available to the secretary on the club website in two formats: a month-at-a-glance grid (key 2) and a scrollable event list (key 3).

PANCAKE BREAKFAST SUCCESS AT TOWN FARM

Kiwanians served 235 guests (excluding the food for all the volunteers and the band). It was a marvelous event. Dan Lerner was there at 6:30 a.m. with me, “cutting” and then cooking sausage links, and Dan came back for clean up as well. Karen was a seater. Steve, Tom, Dave, Geoff, and David were flipping pancakes, Steve’s wife, Vicki bused tables, Lauren ( our newest Kiwanian ) handled beverages, and I was working with Traci Baker (who was kitchen lead) wherever needed through wrap-up and closing down the Daniel E. Offutt III Education Center at the end of the event at Lachat Town Farm at the Juliana Lachat Preserve and final cleanup. 

We placed the Reservoir Run banner under the big evergreen by the barn, mounted on a Kiwanis picnic table, so every guest passed it in close proximity as they came from the parking lot. When they arrived at the sign-in desk, we had Reservoir Run flyers available for them to take. 

All in all, it was a great event for both guests and volunteers, including the high schoolers.
