THIS WEEK'S CLUB MEETING

We will honor two Weston High School youths at this Saturday's meeting. They are the recipients of the 2023 Kiwanis Club of Weston Service and Leadership Award. The awardees were informed before the end of the school year in June and will be with the club this Saturday with their families to receive their rewards in front of the membership.

Past President Dawn Egan, chair of the Awards Committee, will make the presentation. The Weston Kiwanis Service and Leadership Award (certificate and name on the trophy on permanent display in Weston High School) is given to two students per year, typically one boy and one girl.

The qualifications of the Weston Kiwanis Service and Leadership Award award are a youth who has recently made a significant contribution to our community and to its sense of civility; someone who has demonstrated exemplary behavior, attitude and values consistent with those consistent with Kiwanis International and a young person whose overall character and involvement suggest leadership potential. The awardees are chosen by the Awards Committee.

IMPROVING THE WORLD ONE CHILD AND ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME

THE KIWANIS MISSION

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis clubs and individual Kiwanians complete the mission in a variety of ways, and as they are able. Kiwaniscope in this space will celebrate the many ways the Kiwanis Club of Weston and its members are living the Kiwanis mission.

In the next several issues, Kiwaniscope celebrates the service of Past President Rick Amill's reading this year to teacher Katie DeFranco’s first-grade students at Thomas Hooker Elementary School K-8 school in Bridgeport.

Nearby, you see a thank you note to Rick from a grateful first grader at the end of this year's classes.

Rick has read at Thomas Hooker at least two times per month for more than seven years

In the past, Rick has read at various grade levels at two other elementary schools in Bridgeport, plus at the district-wide Read Aloud Day.
