January 2025

Sholem Aleichem, Friend,

KlezCalifornia wrapped up 2024 on a high note, having raised nearly double what we raised in the holiday season of the previous year. Thank you so much to all our donors for your very generous support. We can't wait to see what klezmer & Yiddish culture programming the upcoming year will hold.

Listen to a modern take on an anti-war classic: the band Litvakus performs Niet, pan Lavrov, a Yiddish song lamenting the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

Read this interesting article about singer Paul Robeson, who sang (or sometimes didn't sing!) in Yiddish. If you scroll down, there is an excellent recording of Robeson singing Vi azoy lebt der keyser? in Yiddish.

In honor of the brave women of Iran, the Yazidi, the Kurds, the Ukrainians, and everyone who dares to stand up to violent tyranny, egregious slander campaigns, and violent fascism. May truth and kindness prevail.
