Kings Neighborhood Bridges

Four years ago, the Kings District partnered with an organization called Neighborhood Bridges

It's mission is to bridge communies with schools in providing basic needs, removing barriers, and seeking equity for students so they can engage and succeed in school and life.

Neighborhood Bridges partners with our counselors, social workers and school administrators, and area directors who have login access to their platform to post needs on behalf of students and families (who remain anonymous).

Once a need is posted, neighborhood bridges engage the community to fill it via daily “Opportunities for Kindness” emails and social media posts. A subscriber wishing to fill a need simply clicks “I can help.” They are then provided with drop-off instructions for the donor and then our team of Area Directors will pick-up the donation and deliver it to the recipient.

Since the partnership, our community has quietly and directly helped hundreds of neighbors with donations ranging from clothing to beds/mattresses, washers/dryers, car tires, and immediate help with rent or medical bills.

Please subscribe to Neighborhood Bridges - Kings Local to receive an email when there are needs. Current needs include bunk beds, underwear and clothing, lunch money, and more.

If you have any questions or know of a student/family member in need, contact your school counselor, social worker or reach out to Area Director Tami Coleman at tcoleman@kingslocal.net.

KHS Employability Students Visit Cincy City Hall

The Kings High School students who take the Employabilty class took a field trip to the City of Cincinnati to learn about the career pathways available in the city.

They heard an overview from the City of Cincinnati Career Pathways Initiative who help students understand available careers. Panelists included attorneys, investigators, finance, architecture, city planning, health, and engineering.

The students had an opportunity in break out sessions to speak to those professionals in ther specific field of interest about what a day in the life looks like in that specific career, their career pathway, and what training/credentials and experience is required. They also heard the human resources perspective of what characteristics are desirable in a job candidate (employability skills).

Kings High School Workforce Initiative Leader and Career Coach, Kurtis Keller said, "The intent was to expose students to careers available with the City of Cincinnati and to connect those students with professionals in the field to answer questions/offer guidance."

KJH PTLW Visits Kings Island

The students in the Kings Junior High School Project Lead the Way (PLTW) class were recently treated to behind the scenes access at Kings Island.

They met with the engineering/maintenance/construction team where they learned about the park's safety sensors, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) input/outputs, maintenance protocols, design steps, and more.

Students were also given a behind the scenes tour of the Diamondback rollercoaster. KJH PLTW teacher, Sara Nicholls said, "We had the entire park to ourselves! We love the partnership we have with our neighbor!"

Digital Flyers

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.

Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
