School Parking

Parents and students, please note these friendly reminders regarding the parking lots at BMHS:

  1. The City of Beloit Municipal Code, 13.07(3), states vehicles must be parked within visible parking lines. Several complaints have been made regarding the vehicles waiting in the parking lot, particularly after school, outside the designated parking stalls.  Being in your vehicle or keeping it running does not negate the requirements of the municipal code. Please be considerate of the necessity for traffic to be able to flow through the parking lot.
  2. ALL vehicles parking in the BMHS parking lot during school hours MUST have an authorized parking tag displayed in your front window and be in the correct lot. Students, please make sure you are parking in the student marked parking spots or your vehicle will be ticketed.
  3. Please pay attention to the parking areas around our building and the designated areas for you to park.  ALWAYS park in a parking stall, not in the areas of travel and end portions of parking lanes. This is a safety issue, and you can receive a ticket for this. Remember your pass needs to be displayed in your vehicle, or you can be issued a ticket, even if you have been issued a pass. Staff this goes the same for your passes.  Visitors please make sure you are parking in a designated visitor area and place your license plate number on the log book in the main office. If your plate is not in the log book, you can receive a ticket.

Please do not let yourself become a victim! Always lock up your belongings when you are away from them!  Never share your locker or combinations with anyone!
Greetings Beloit Memorial Families!

Dear Beloit Memorial High School Families and Friends,

It has been a great start to the 2019 - 2020 school year!  Students have settled into their schedules and our teachers are engaging their students in top notch learning experiences.  BMHS Freshmen have learned how to find their way around in the high school, and our Seniors are beginning to formalize their postgraduate plans. All of our students are beginning to organize their days in terms of time commitment and schedule.  Students at BMHS understand that they are a part of something special, and they are eager to contribute to the enriching culture that makes BMHS such a remarkable school.

Many of our students devote their free time to extracurricular activities or interscholastic sports. Many of our students also work or volunteer in the community. No matter what students' interests may be, it is important that they begin to learn to develop a balance of worthwhile activities for themselves. These interests and activities will follow them when they leave Beloit Memorial High School. Adjustment to high school, college, or employment is better supported when students have a healthy balance of time and activities in their lives. I encourage all of our students to look to their school, community, and family to find opportunities to support their interests by getting involved.

In an effort to increase our performance on the State report card and fully prepare our students for college and the workforce, all students will be engaging in distinct approaches to literacy that are used across disciplines.  During Term 1, teachers will emphasize and teach annotation and summarization. Students will be asked to perform instructional tasks in each of their classes using these strategies and demonstrate their ability to comprehend texts unique to the content area.  To graduate high school fully prepared for college and the workforce, students need more
than basic literacy skills. They need to master approaches to literacy that are used across academic disciplines.

Homecoming week is Sept. 30 - Oct. 5th.  The week will include many activities for students to be involved in.  It is important that students maintain balance by participating in Homecoming activities and have fun, but also continue to focus on their academics and studies.  It is also important and expected that students display appropriate behavior at all times in school and in the community. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting Homecoming week.

Most of our students are working hard each day to arrive to school and their classes on time and ready to learn.  That is the expectation at BMHS. We do ask for families to help and support these efforts. When students are not in class, they miss valuable instructional time which affects their ability to achieve to their fullest potential. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's counselor or Academy Principal regarding your child's attendance and help reinforce the importance of attending classes regularly and on time.

Thank you for all of your continued support and partnership in education!

Sincerely,

Emily Pelz
Interim Principal

Attendance News

Here are a few reminders:

School attendance is shown to be a determiner of school success for students. Students who attend school everyday and are on time achieve academics at higher rates than non-school attenders OR chronically late students.  At BMHS we promote regular and 'on time' school attendance as creating good habits for a student's future success in high school AND post-secondary choices.

You can report attendance in one of the following ways:
  1. Phone 608.361.3405
  2. Send a signed note with the student's name, date and reason for absence along with a phone number to contact you with questions
As a building, we meet weekly to discuss absences and tardies. Specifics will be shared as we develop plans for both tardies and absences.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
How do I find scholarships?
  • Some scholarships are available by application only and are available in the School Counseling Office or by email notification on an ongoing basis. Please have your student check weekly for any new scholarships that we have received.
  • Some scholarship applications are on file in the School Counseling Office. These scholarships are available through individuals, groups and organizations.
  • Some scholarships have criteria that will be listed for who can apply for it.
  • Some scholarships are only available through the college your student applies to and are offered directly through the college.
  • Some scholarships are available through a parent's employer.
  • Websites that are available for scholarship searches include:
  • The app  "Scholly" is available on Android and iPhone and will help you identify scholarships specific to your search.
  • In November senior students may apply for scholarship through the Stateline Community Foundation.  This foundation has approximately 40 local scholarships available. Students fill out a one time application, but may apply for all the scholarships that they meet the criteria for. You can find these scholarships at statelinecf.org
  • Many scholarships ask for a personal essay or an essay about how the funds would be helpful to the student. Now is the time to prepare those essays.
If you have any questions regarding scholarship information please contact Mrs. Wolf, School Counselor at 608.361.3027
