Student Spotlight

Congratulations to third-grader A'nizjah, who was chosen as our "Student Spotlight." A'nizjah was nominated for embodying the IB attribute of being a risk-taker. Risk-takers approach uncertainty with forethought and determination. They work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. Risk-takers are also resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

A'nizjah is a risk-taker in math class. Even when she is unsure how to solve a problem, she uses her growth mindset skills to be a risk-taker and try it on her own before asking for help. According to her nominee, "A'nizjah is a fantastic third grade student!"
Staff Shoutout

Upper School language acquisition teacher, Mr. Derik Bartrom, was nominated for being a strong communicator. When displaying this IB attribute , communicators express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. They collaborate effectively, while listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

Mr. Bartrom goes above and beyond to support many teachers by translating documents into Spanish for their students. He even offered to translate homework for a student to ensure their success. He truly exemplifies the "it takes a village" mentality and believes that any York Academy student is HIS student. Thank you for being such a caring communicator with your students and colleagues, Mr. Bartrom!

Through the IB Lens

Listen to students share how they’ve become stronger, more caring and courageous through the Primary Years Programme. The PYP ignites curiosity and encourages learners to ask questions. Students develop important social and emotional skills during the PYP via the IB learner profile, as well . In this video, PYP teachers and students explain how inquiry and critical thinking skills are used in the classroom and beyond. Learn more at www.ibo.org
