Did you know that York Academy has a mobile app? It's a mini version of our website that puts the most valuable information literally at your fingertips! The app serves as another way to improve communication by creating additional access points.

Simply search your app store for York Academy Regional Charter. When prompted, make sure to allow notifications so we can share important updates with you.
If you already have the app, be sure to check it out since it's been revised and refreshed.

Stay Safe & Healthy,

Important Reminder: Complete the Student Information Form
If you haven't completed the Back to School Student Information Form, click here to complete it now. In the past, this information was sent home with students (First Day Packet). It is now online, which will make it quicker and easier for you. This information is crucial, and all parents and guardians are required to complete the form for each student who attends York Academy.

Be prepared to share your emergency contact information and provide consent regarding policies for the 2020-21 school year. As you go through the questions, some of them will pertain to a normal classroom setting. Answer them as if we were fully back in school. Thank you!
Knight Nod
Congratulations to Azalea, a fourth-grader who is our Knight Nod (formerly Student Spotlight). She was nominated for embodying the International Baccalaureate attribute of being caring. When we are caring, we show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and the world around us.
Azalea stays on task and is always ready to offer assistance to others who are struggling with their schoolwork. She is also kind to everyone at all times. Here's a big "Knight Nod" for being so caring, Azalea. Keep it up!
Holiday & Early Dismissal
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, September 7 (Labor Day). Wednesday, September 9 is an Early Dismissal Day. Students who are at school for supervision will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. If your student(s) are learning from home, classes will end at 12:15 p.m. (for K-6) and 12:30 p.m. (for 7-11).

To show our commitment to higher education, students may wear their favorite college/university shirts in place of their uniform shirts on early dismissal days. All other uniform requirements remain the same, and students who do not wish to wear university or college shirts are to wear their uniform shirts.

Since it's an early dismissal day, meals will be available from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Upper School (curbside) for students who are learning from home.
Knight Staff Superstar
A huge shoutout goes to Jody Jones for being our Knight Staff Superstar and embodying the  International Baccalaureate attribute of being balanced! It's critical to understand the importance of balancing the different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. When we are in balance, we recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.
Jody, who is an Instructional Assistant supporting sciences at the Upper School, has been balanced since the first day of school! She has been working with the kindergarten team helping them with anything and everything that needs to be done. Jody has also completed her duties at the Upper School, supporting the science teachers during their planning and covering classes such as music, PE and other activities. According to her nominee, "Jody is a real asset at the York Academy. She does her work with a smile and always has nice things to say to the students and staff." Thanks for all you do, Jody. You are appreciated!
A Lesson in Aerodynamics
Students in Mrs. Sharpe's fourth grade class enjoyed a fun STEM project. They learned about aerodynamics and how the basic design of a paper plane affects its flight. The students watched a video to gain tips from "The Paper Airplane Guy," who holds the world record for a long distance glider (almost 227 feet). They crafted their own paper flying machines and flew them down the hallway to see how the design of their planes affected the length of the flight. Over the course of three rounds, the students altered their gliders to try to improve their distance. The most successful flight was about 34 feet!

Notes from the Kitchen
Hello, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Regina Arnold and I am the new Food Service Manager. Everyone calls me Ms. Gina. I’ve managed the Upper School kitchen for the last two years and have been privileged to work with a great team who works hard to provide meals for your children. I look forward to serving York Academy in this new role.
Because of the pandemic, our Food Services Department needed to adjust its plans. We are serving meals in the classrooms at the Lower School and curbside at the Upper School from 12 - 1 p.m. for students who are learning from home. The prices are based on each student’s eligibility with the National School Lunch Program. We are serving a hot meal and sending breakfast along for the next day. The cost of breakfast is $1.70 and lunch is $2.75. If possible, add money to your child’s account via School Bucks. You may also send cash or a check with your student, but make sure their name is clearly written on the envelope.
Please note that even if your child was receiving free or reduced meals last school year, you must complete a new application annually (deadline: 10/1/2020). You can ask for a paper application at school or click here to apply online.
The monthly menu is posted on our website and includes descriptions of new food items. If your child has ideas for the menu, or you have any questions or concerns, I would love to hear them. It’s important to me to have open communication with our children and families. The best way reach me is by email at
Make sure to watch our Facebook and Instagram each day to find out what’s on the menu and see a picture of it. I hope you'll support our Food Services Department and stop by for a great meal!
Eat well and be healthy,
Ms. Gina
Reminders for Parents of In-School Students
Here are some important reminders for parents/guardians of students who are coming to York Academy for supervision:

  • Please do not park on the street during drop-off or pick-up from 7:30 - 8 a.m and 3 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Make sure to use either the gravel parking lot across from the playground or the drop-off lane in the rear of the Lower School from 7:30 - 8 a.m.
  • Any students arriving after 8 a.m. will need to enter through the front office.
  • All students should wear a properly fitting face mask or face shield to school each day.
  •  Parents/Guardians should continue to log into Canvas to monitor the instruction offered and work completed by students. If you need support accessing your account, please contact the school at (717) 801-3900.
  • All students should complete the Attendance Form each day before 10 a.m. to be counted as present for the day. The link is located on the left side of their homeroom Canvas course. Students participating from the supervised rooms at the Lower School will complete this in school each day.
Making Science Fun
Ms. Kutruff is always finding ways to keep her students engaged! Her 10th grade chemistry class is starting a unit on chemical special effects. To reinforce the curriculum and make learning fun, she created a live exploding egg lab. The egg collected a gas that formed after combining zinc and acid. As a result, the gas exploded an eggshell when a match was lit near the egg. The students loved it!
