KnightNews is an electronic publication sent periodically to Bishop Ready parents and our partner school parents to keep you informed of important dates and student news.
A Message from Ms Seamen
As we all face the current challenge of school closing and physical distancing, we wanted to bring you some news and information to lift spirits and affirm our faith that life will gradually return to a more familiar routine. Daily routine is currently altered but the Ready spirit is strong!  We are saddened for our spring athletes whose seasons have been severely altered, if not cancelled.  There are few words of consolation for any student who has lost a play, a concert, a favorite activity.

As the Ready family, however, we move forward in offering congratulations to those students who were fortunate enough to have enjoyed most of their winter seasons and we highlight those accomplishments.  We bring you other good news as well, albeit in an abridged version of KnightNews .

Please visit our website to view the latest edition of the Ready Report, our magazine for alums (drop-down menu under Alumni/ae).  And please check our website and Facebook page for updated information. Stay healthy, follow all CDC guidelines, and continue to join in prayer for all workers, particularly those in the medical field who serve on the front lines.  God bless.
To Our Incoming Silver Knights
We know this is a difficult time for you and this is not how you planned to end your eighth grade year. Looking ahead, however, we continue to plan for your arrival as a Bishop Ready High School Freshman. You are being assigned classes and your parents received or will receive a form to be completed in order for you to select electives. We will also be sending information about clubs and activities.

As soon as possible, you will be able to select a sport or sports to play, activities to join. You will meet students from other schools and begin your journey as a member of the Bishop Ready family.

Don’t worry about the transition to high school because we are planning for your arrival and soon you will be a Silver Knight. If you have any questions, please email either  mbrickne@cdeducation.org  (Mr. Brickner) or  cseamen@cdeducation.org  (Ms Seamen).

We look forward to welcoming you, the Class of 2024!  Go Knights!
"Distance" Learning
Throughout this most unusual distancing experience, Ready faculty are still teaching and students are still learning.  Very little time was lost as Ready was prepared, with a day’s notice, to continue the educational experience.  As you will note from the pictures, it’s a slightly less formal environment (no uniforms!) and, while social interaction in a group setting is missing, the Ready family continues its mission of education, caring, and prayer.  Enjoy!

Ready Alum Chosen for Peer Leader Program at Bowling Green State University
(We received the following announcement from the College of Business at Bowling Green State University and are happy to share this good news with the extended Ready family. Jarek received a Gold Cord at graduation and was a member of the National Beta Club, National Honor Society, and Ready’s Student Council.)

(Dateline: Bowling Green, Ohio, April 9, 2020). The Bowling Green State University College of Business is proud to announce that Jarek Kolinski has been chosen to serve as a Peer Leader for the upcoming summer and academic year. Kolinski is a 2019 graduate of Bishop Ready High School.

College of Business Peer Leaders are selected as ideal student role models and carry out the important responsibility of being a mentor to incoming business students. The role of the Peer Leader is to assist new business students with the transition to college life, beginning the summer before they arrive on campus for fall classes and continue throughout the academic year.

“We are pleased Jarek was selected for the Peer Leader Program,” commented Ray Braun ’80, Dean of the College of Business. “Peer Leaders are high achieving, very active students who serve as role models and mentors to our new freshmen class. They help our new students feel more comfortable and college-ready as they arrive on campus in the fall.”

Once Peer Leaders are chosen, they go through an extensive series of training workshops conducted by the Dean and faculty members. They are assigned a number of incoming freshmen who they contact via email over the summer to answer questions, provide resource information and help transition them to college life. The freshmen meet their Peer Leader during Freshmen Opening Day activities in late August.

Kolinski is actively engaged in the College of Business. On campus, he is involved in intramural basketball and flag football.
Spotlight On…The Bryan Sisters
During this period of uncertainty, when helping others is more important than ever yet more dangerous than normal, we want to highlight what two sisters, one an alum and one a senior, have been doing to help out during this stressful time.

Hannah Bryan ’20 has been working with the elderly at First Community Village, making sure that they are getting nutritious meals on a daily basis.  She is helping with carryout, delivery, and meal prep since residents are not able to go to the dining room for communal dining.  In addition, she is making distance visits to her Grandmother who was in quarantine, making sure that she has all that she needs.  Hannah, an accomplished softball catcher who has been named 1st Team/All CCL and All-District three times, has been accepted at OSU and will continue her stellar softball career there.
Hailey Bryan ‘15 is in Veterinary Medicine School at OSU, currently doing on-line classes. She works at VCA animal hospital as a Vet Assistant, working to provide care as well as safety for clients and staff.  She also works at First Community Village, assisting with meals.  In addition, she cares for pets in people’s homes and exercises them.  She is providing care for healthcare workers pets so that the caregivers have one less thing to worry about as they do their essential jobs.

(Thanks to Marjorie Bryan for sharing the above information.)

“Our team had high expectations entering this season,” Coach Bisutti said, “and we had a very good season, finishing with a 16-7 mark.  We had the opportunity to play for a piece of the CCL championship in our last league game, but came up just a bit short.  Highlight victories included two wins over Watterson and Hartley, a victory over state-ranked Proctorville Fairland, and an upset win on the road at league-leading DeSales.  While we will dearly miss our lone senior, captain Brock Baker, expectations next season will be even higher as we return what will be a deep, experienced team.”

Wrestling Coach Anthony Aiello
“The season started off well,” Coach Aiello said, “with 15 wrestlers, which is the most we’ve had these past four years.  The program is definitely growing and we’ll only lose two to graduation.” Because of injuries, the team finished with 13 wrestlers.

From those original 15 members, only five had wrestled prior to this year. “I’m really excited about next season,” Aiello said.  “It’ll be an experienced group of wrestlers with a very strong work ethic and a true love for the sport. And with junior state qualifier Aiden Aiello and sophomore state alternate Paul Martello leading the way, I’m looking forward to getting back in the room and working this off-season in preparation for next season.”
