October Family Rosaries are Coming!
rosary.jpg
While we don't have the Silver Rose, we do have Family Rosaries in October!! Every Thursday at 6:30 pm in the St Michael courtyard, we will assemble and turn to our Mother Mary to request intervention a different special intention each week (e.g., Church, Families, Life, ...). Brother Mike Taranowski and the new faith committee will be providing guidance beginning next week.

Please spread the word and encourage parish families to join us. We have a special rosary booklet and I would like to have a family sign up for each week to lead the rosary where a different family member can lead a decade. Remember - one of our key missions is to strengthen the faith of our families! There is no better way than to pray the rosary together. This is how we, as Knights, can help families demonstrate our faith and the power of prayer to the children as a community. Watch for the Sign Up Genius in Next Week's Knightly News!
Cycling for Veterans Event

Brother Knight Todd Steffan, through his LPCC Veteran's First program, will be hosting a cycling and a walking event at Las Positas College on 10/6 in support of our veter ans. All fundraising will directly benefit veteran and active military organizations including: the Las Positas College Veterans First Program, Sentinels of Freedom, Student Veterans Organization (SVO), Blue Star Moms – Danville Chapter, and Pleasanton Military Families (PMF). It will also serve to raise awareness about veteran suicides.

This will be a partnership with Cattlemen's who is providing the food for the event. We will be providing a grill and a few grill masters. We will need a person to move the grill and a few cooks. Please sign up below!
"Blue Mass" to Honor First Responders

Description: Blue Mass to Honor First Responders
When : October 7, 2018, 10 AM
This year, the Mass, sometimes known as the Blue Mass, in honor of the uniform color, will be the 10 a.m. Mass Oct. 7 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland. Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will celebrate the Mass.

Over the past four years the Mass has been celebrated at the cathedral, it has been on a weekday. It is hoped more members of the community will be able to be present to pray with the first-responders who serve in the Diocese of Oakland.

The Mass has its traditions, inside and outside the cathedral: On Harrison Street, in front of the cathedral, an American flag will be suspended between the ladders of two Oakland Fire trucks. Oakland Police motorcycles are parked in a row on the Cathedral Plaza. Inside the cathedral, the Honor Guard of the Pittsburg Police Department will present the flags of the United States and California. Chaplains who serve the various departments will participate in the Mass. A bagpiper will play. The dead will be honored; the living blessed.

Afterward, all are invited to hospitality.

East Bay Stand Down was a success
Several Livermore Knights joined a total of 68 Knights from around the East Bay to serve over 600 of our local homeless veterans at the East Bay Stand Down last Friday. The effort was lead by our worthy FDD Matt Troiano and was another successful event to help those who have sacrificed for our country and fallen on hard times. Be sure to help when this event happens again in two years!
Blood Drive SignUp also successful
Thank you to Joe Burrescia for organizing another great Blood Drive Sign Up and thanks to all those who helped to sign up volunteers this Saturday and Sunday! It sounds like it was completely successful -filling almost all the available spots and handing out plenty of fliers to those who needed to check their calendar. If you want to sign up but missed it, check with Joe to see if there are any slots remaining. Great job to Joe and team!
Altar Server Picnic was fun and delicious
It was perfect weather for a picnic on Sunday afternoon. With brother Knight Eric Martinez as the grill master, it was a great pleasure to provide a simple but fun picnic in the St Michael courtyard to acknowledge the wonderful and valuable service provided by our altar servers and their families. We had more than 30 attendees, including Father Carl and Brother Paul, our recently arrived seminarian, and St Michael altar server coordinator Anne Stahl. Thanks to Father Carl for allowing us to use the rectory grill and to John and Dennis for all the set up help. Special thanks goes out to the Taranowski's, once again, for providing the perfect musical background on a lovely late summer afternoon.
Dinner with Father Mark
Word has it that there was a special dinner on Monday evening but the reports did reach the editor's desk by press time...check back next week for details!

East Bay Knights LinkedIn Group

A new communication vehicle for Knights is available - a LinkedIn group called the“East Bay Knights of Columbus”, another example of Knights Helping Knights .

This group allows members of the Knights of Columbus in the San Francisco East Bay to network with brother knights. Use the group to find a knight who can help you get info about a job opening at local company, find a mentor to allow you to grow professionally or find a knight in another city within the East Bay.

The more Knights that join the group, the better the group will able to help others: (1) simply go to LinkedIn and type East Bay Knights of Columbus in the search line and request permission to join the group. (2) Email your name, city and council number to our group administrator at [email protected] . He will approve your membership within 48 hours when you do.

Each of us needs help professionally sometime in our careers. What better place to seek help than from a brother knight looking for help professionally? If you are retired, I urge you to join the group. Your experience and insights within a certain profession or industry can help the younger knights get better jobs and rise within their profession.
Are you a Social Media wizard?

I still need a brother Knight to step up and help with our website and /or Facebook. We now use the modern WordPress platform and our Facebook account has a growing follower base.

Contact me ([email protected]) or John Robinson ([email protected]) if you can help. It is a great opportunity to help spread the word about our activities and to gain experience as well.
In our prayers
