First Semester, 2022

SUPERINTENDENT SPEAKS
Dear LNC Families,

It has been a joy to see our school community reunited this year not only for our traditional activities, but also to celebrate LNC’s 25th anniversary. There have been many takeaways from the past two years that will shape the future of the LNC experience for our students, including the importance of every student feeling a sense of belonging and being seen as a whole child.

I read a recent article by a school leader in South Carolina that reminded me that schools will need to lead differently in this post-pandemic world where connectedness, community and balance will be markers of success and happiness. We are fortunate at Lake Norman Charter to have the staff, resources and family support to ensure our students are known and challenged. We continue to encourage them to “Be Their Best” (thank you, Principal Smith) without ignoring the importance of mental health and personal character. An environment where students are known is one that allows educators to help kids make choices in their curriculum and find their passions in and out of the classroom. Helping them find what is already great about themselves and assisting them to develop into their best versions requires attentiveness, mentoring and excellence across the curricular and co-curricular programs. At a school like LNC, it is a goal to understand that everything we do has impact from the time our students walk on campus to the time they go home. It is also an achievable goal to teach kids to work hard and seek excellence without creating an unhealthy culture.

This time in history has offered a renaissance and leaders in education need to have the courage and compassion to seize it. As such, our board and staff have embraced examining our practices of how we best support our students both during their time at LNC and beyond as we prepare them for the world that they will enter as leaders in their community. We are excited to see what the next 25 years bring. Wishing you and yours a restful and memorable break ahead!

On August 9, 2022, the LNC PTO hosted the beginning of the year luncheon for staff members across all three campuses. The luncheon was held at the elementary school campus and catered by Panera Bread. This annual event allows teachers and staff to hear from Superintendent Shannon Stein as she welcomes in the new school year. The PTO takes this opportunity to set the tone for the school year by offering a catered lunch and smiling faces to staff.
The PTO held a fall-themed luncheon for staff on October 28, 2022 across all campuses. Teachers and staff at each campus were treated to an Italian catered lunch. The fall luncheon was catered by Mama's Pizza and was the first of several festive lunches PTO will hold for staff this school year.
During the semi-annual PTO meeting held at the HS multipurpose room, leadership shared the PTO's 2022-2023 vision. This successful event was attended by active PTO members and parents desiring to have a more active role within the PTO. Leadership was able to highlight the lunch program and share revenue numbers as well as initiatives that help to support LNC staff.
The most anticipated event of each year, the staff cookie walk, was held on December 9, 2022, across all campuses. Staff were treated to freshly baked cookies and a hot chocolate bar. The PTO took advantage of the opportunity to create a winter wonderland theme, executed differently at each campus but loved equally amongst all staff. We appreciate all the parents who brought in delicious goodies to share with the staff.
The PTO has been thrilled with parent participation during this school year and looks forward to continuing to partner with parents to support the LNC staff for the remainder of the school year. If you want to get involved, look for these upcoming events:
  • February 10: PTO lunch for staff
  • March 24: PTO lunch for staff
  • May 1-5: Staff Appreciation week

The teachers, staff and administration of Lake Norman Charter thank our parents and PTO for their generous contributions to the Staff Holiday Gifting program. We are so appreciative of your support and thoughtfulness now and throughout the school year.

We wish all of our families a happy holiday season and a pleasant winter break!
LNC SILVERbration Celebration
On November 18 and 21 students and staff celebrated LNC's 25th anniversary! Kids enjoyed multiple bounce houses, silent disco, ultimate Frisbee, pickleball, arts & crafts, flag football, obstacle courses, tug of war, ping-pong, trivia games, hot chocolate & donuts, and much more! Everyone had so much fun enjoying the bounty of 25 years of hard work and dedicated effort by our founding and current parents, teachers, board, staff and administration to create and sustain one of the top schools in the nation!

Congratulations 5th graders!
It's LNC Night for all families and staff at the Charlotte Checkers hockey game on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Doors open at 3 pm and the puck drops at 4 pm. Tickets are just $18 with $5 of every ticket going back to LNC. Our very own middle school Builders Club will be performing God Bless America before the game! Click here for more information.

In October LNC HS received a generous donation of a ping-pong table for the courtyard from Dr. Wei Huang from Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat. Students and staff are enjoying playing on the ping-pong table before school, during lunchtime and carpool and any time they can sneak in a game or two.

In November, we received a second ping-pong table from the Sangha family, which has doubled the fun for students and staff! Thank you to both families for your generosity!
2023-2024 School Year Calendar
The calendar for the 2023-2024 school year is available here. Please keep the school calendar in mind when you are planning vacations/time away, particularly at the beginning of the school year. As in years past, the majority of our students have their first day of school on a Thursday (August 10, 2023) with our 5th and 9th grade students attending their first day one day prior (August 9, 2023) allowing us to focus on them exclusively as they learn their new school. It is very important that all of our students attend that first day of school as student enrollment is critical to ensuring that students are engaged with their teacher and curriculum in order to be successful from day one.
Sibling Applications for LNC Lottery
The LNC lottery for the 2023-24 school year is now open. If you have a sibling of a currently enrolled student who wishes to attend LNC next school year, please submit an application for them here. When you are completing the application, make sure you mark that they are a sibling of a current student. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

The lottery will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 and applicants will be emailed a link to view the lottery live.
Winter Break
Students have a half day of school on Thursday, December 22.

  • HS dismisses after exams
  • MS dismisses at 11:30am
  • ES dismisses at 12:00pm

We will see students back in school on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Honor Roll
Congratulations to the students on the LNC Honor Roll for the first quarter, 2022-2023.
Keeping Your Students' Contact Information Current
LNC uses parent email addresses to send information home to families. In addition, in case of emergencies when parents need to be contacted immediately, it is important that we have current cell phone numbers.

If your email address, phone number or mailing address information has changed please let the school know using this form. You can also use this form to update the list of people who can pick up your student in your place.
LNC Absence Reporting
If your student will not be at school, you can report their absence via email to the school registrar:
ES Sue Scott - sscott@lncharter.org
MS Jennifer Wolf - jwolfe@lncharter.org
HS Valerie Norris - vnorris@lncharter.org

If you ordinarily email your child's teachers, you can include the registrar on that email. If your child has been absent for two days, we require an excuse note with a return date from the medical provider to excuse further absences.
LNC Family Directory
You can use the LNC Family Directory to find out who is in your neighborhood, who is involved in the same activities as your student, organize play dates, birthday parties, carpool and more. Click this link to access the directory or create an account and provide as much information as you'd like in the secure directory.
