St. Francis Academic Decathlon Team Crowned
State Medium School Champion

This past weekend the St. Francis High School Academic Decathlon Team competed in the 33rd Annual California Academic Decathlon in Sacramento, California. The team earned a spot in this prestigious state competition by finishing first at the Southern California Private Schools Academic Decathlon (SCPAD) regional competition earlier in the year at Alemany High School. The California Academic Decathlon competition is a contest of academic strength and provides an environment that encourages, acknowledges and rewards academic excellence through teamwork among students of all achievement levels. 65 teams from high schools all across California participated in the state tournament.

Based on its total points, St. Francis High School was recognized as the top medium-sized school (enrollment between 651 and 1,300) in California. Therefore, the team now has the opportunity to go on to represent California in the United States Academic Decathlon 2012 Medium School Online National Competition scheduled for April 4 and April 27, 2012. In addition to an excellent team finish, three members of the team also received individual awards for their outstanding performance.

Got Socks?

Give to Those in Need

We need your help providing socks for homeless and poor residents of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Please bring any new socks for donation to Campus Ministry before April 6th. This sock drive collection is supporting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in L.A.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in Paris, France in 1833 by a 20-year old student, Frederic Ozanam. Challenged by the poverty he saw on the streets, and by his contemporaries who believed the Church no longer demonstrated an active faith in works of charity, Frederic organized the first "Conference of Charity" to help the poor of all religions created by the industrial revolution, as well as create an avenue that assisted people to express their faith and grow spiritually through acts of charity. Students in the Conference began begging for money, food, fuel and other items that could be used to help the desperately poor families they found in the slums of Paris. These students also met weekly to take stock of their resources and plan their activities.

The St. Francis High School

Spirit Shirt

Since its founding by the Capuchin Franciscan Friars in 1946, our school has been committed to enriching the mind and heart, strengthening respect through service and humility, creating a family environment, and developing men of hope and peace. Today, 66 years later, St. Francis continues to positively impact our lives, the lives of our families and the local communities.

As we reflect back on our beginnings, we look forward to celebrating our heritage by strengthening the spirit of community and brotherhood throughout the entire St. Francis family. To support this effort, we are excited to announce the creation of our Spirit Shirt. The Spirit Shirt is designed to unite the community around the mission of St. Francis High School and celebrate our core Franciscan virtues. Each year a new Spirit Shirt will reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of the Golden Knight and the Capuchin Franciscan tradition.

These shirts will be proudly worn throughout the coming school year - for "White Outs" at select sporting events, on t-shirt days, at rallies and on Brown & Gold Days. Don't be left out! Show your school spirit with this unique, limited-edition shirt and be a part of the excitement. Proceeds from the Spirit Shirt go to benefit St. Francis clubs and student activities.
