A Knit Hat with

Accordion Rib Stitch

Which Yarn for This Pattern?

Canyon Walk Hat is knit using worsted weight yarn, so there are a lot of choices.

For easy care, try HiKoo Simpliworsted. It's a blend of super wash merino, acrylic and nylon. A 100 gram skein has 140 yards so there won't be much left over when you use this yarn. The hat in the upper left is the denim marl in Simpliworsted.

For soft, we like HiKoo Simplinatural. That's the yarn that Wanda used when she wrote this hat pattern and knit the samples.

Simplinatural is natural fiber -- alpaca, merino and (mmm!) silk. The silk takes dye with a glisten and this yarn shows those highlights to a tee. Our price on this luxury yarn is $21.95 a skein, but when you combine a skein with another purchase, you can use our 25BY25 coupon code for 25% off an order that's $25 or more. Buy two skeins. Your kayaking and hiking buddies will be glad that they have a knitter friend! Walkers, keep a Canyon Walk Hat in your pocket!

Canyon Walk Hat by Graywood Designs

Friends,

I wanted a warm knit hat for walking in the mornings and evenings at our Arizona place. Those desert hours get really chilly so I used Simplinatural by HiKoo, a thick worsted that is soft and knits up like butter.

The patterns uses two sizes of circular needles — US #5 & #7 — so there is no increasing after the first ribbing. You’ll decrease at the top of the hat.

There's a clever way of counting the ribbing rounds for this hat. The pattern includes a diagram so you can figure that out easily.

I like ribbing and put some variations into this pattern that give accordion-like folds to the knitting. With the worsted gauge, you’ll get a squishy fabric that makes this hat comfy to pull down over your ears.

One size fits most adults. One skein makes a hat. I'm sure you'll knit more than one.

Happy knitting,

Wanda Eichler
