Hello knitters!

Helical Knitting is easy to learn and a clever tool to have in your knitting knowledge bag.

The helical technique uses two colors that form a double helix -- a double spiral. There are two balls of yarn attached to the knitting. Helical knitting uses a circular needle.

Try our Striped Helical Beanie pattern to learn how. This pattern is basic with step by step photographs and directions that guide you through the helical concept.

Knit a hat or two. Once you have learned the technique, you will find it easy to knit stripes that are artsy and creative.

Graywood Designs

The hat in the photos was knit with gray worsted weight yarn and (sometimes I experiment!) a DK weight pink. The DK is lighter, but it carries along well as the second color.

Our DK weight Edition 3 would carry along well, too. Since the pattern calls for both yarns being worsted weight, there is a little take up in the knitting, but I found it was not enough to matter.

So try Brown Sheep Nature Spun worsted for the main color.

Pair it with Schoppel Wolle's Edition 3.

Edition 3 colors shown are Mineral Resources (2471) on the left. On the right: Neighbor's Garden (2474) Look how saturated these colors are next to the that raspberry shade (Boysenberry) and black (Pepper) in the Nature Spun worsted yarn. Luscious!

Our Striped Helical Beanie Hat pattern has complete directions and photos that guide you through learning helical knitting. It's not that hard so give it a try!
