WELCOME TO OUR 25TH YEAR!

Spinning season has arrived! Are you ready?

POTLUCK LUNCH, SATURDAY, November 22nd, 12:30

Save the Date!

I know, I know. Potluck is usually last Saturday, but I am helping host a guitar recital across the street at Studio 540 that day, so I will have my hands full! You should come to that! Watch the Facebook page for details.

The Magic Elm has dropped its leaves, the indigo plants are done, and all of the flower beds need to be weed whacked before we get snow below 6,000 feet. I've pulled in the hoses, and sometime very soon I need to figure out how to turn off my automated irrigation system beyond just turning the water off.

Last week someone horrid pointed out there were only 9 more Fridays until Christmas. Who does that? It may have made me a bit stabby. By the time you are reading this it may be past Halloween, and thus you may already be trying to dodge terrible holiday ads and "Santa Baby". Condolences. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but having it start in October is just silly. I have been ordering yarn for the winter, knitting/weaving items for gifts, considering how to decorate... and yet I still don't have plans for Thanksgiving! Madness!

As I own a shop, I would be remiss if I didn't say something shop ownerish about the upcoming holidays. I am slowly restocking favourite yarns, we have some Malabrigo knitting kits, there are a hundred hats (only a slight exaggeration), a few new rugs, and I will be spending the mid-month dyeing like a fiend. We unearthed some fantastic dead stock yarns in the bottomless storage that are all tied up and ready to hit the dye pot, so there will be a number of one-of-a-kind skeins in a variety of fiber types (one of them is a fantastic wool-silk combo). All of the children's sweaters are 20% off, and the Yarn Cemetery is stocked with an amazing selection of sale yarn, some good gift items, and for the first time ever, a rug. There is even this lovely little sock kit that has not sold for reasons that are utterly obscure to me- I mean look at that! It's got a hand felted yarn bowl, a ball of Zauberball, size 2 DPNs, a sheep tape measure, and folding scissors for $55! Someone needs to take this thing away.

I have been knitting beanies somewhat obsessively over the last month. I am not a pattern repeater by nature, but I just keep making these. There is no clear explanation as to why, but it has something to do with them feeling like making good wishes into an object. I am using whatever scraps we have around (and we have scraps), so each of them is completely unique and unplanned. The idea of being able to put that in your pocket to keep for when you get cold, a little bit of whimsy and improvisation, is appealing to me. I'm not putting them online because I think these hats need to be discovered in the shop by the people who are meant for them.

If you are planning to come to the shop, please check the schedule, and as we get into heavier winter weather, please call ahead. I have to drive over Cedar Pass every day to get to the shop, and there are days when that is a dicey proposition. My guess is if it is too much for me, it is probably too much for most people, but you never know what the drive to obtain yarn can do to a person! Right now I am playing it by ear, but my guess is that before the end of the month I will be opening at 11 instead of 10 so that there is a little more time for the Pass to thaw in the morning before I drive my truck over it.

We hope to see you in the shop

Ashlea will be subbing through mid-September

This is a 60 minute intro class, priced at $12.50 per class, cash at the door. We will hold the class upstairs in the second floor class space. Because this is an exploratory class to assess general interest for a (near) future series, students will need to bring their own mats/blankets and any bolsters/cushions/blocks they would normally need in class.

Crochet Classes!

NOVEMBER 8th & 22nd, from 10am to 12noon.

NOW FREE! JUST SHOW UP!

Just starting out? Barbara will teach you the basics and get you going on your first scarf (which you must wear, even if it is wonkey). Already know a few things but are stuck on something new? Barbara is excellent at helping work through those spots and teaching you how to, as well. Just want to sit and crochet with others while soaking up crafting wisdom? That's the way we like it, too! Ongoing classes.

If you are interested in learning one-on-one, please call the shop and we can schedule a private class at your convenience. $20/hr per person.

Seed stitch, randomly striped blanket knit with Brown Sheep Bulky Superwash.

Open Knitting Class

NOVEMBER 15TH 10:30-12:30

Adrienne will be at the craft table downstairs to help you learn how to knit or to help workout that new technique you've been dying to try. All levels welcome. This is an informal, no pressure learning offering and a great way to get started! We have a KAL going in October and November- the stash busting "Penguono" pattern by Stephen West! I will have one mostly completed by the 18th and will be more than ready to walk anyone through any of the techniques used in this super fun to make project.

As with all our classes, if you are interested in one-on-one learning, please call the shop and we can schedule a private class at your convenience. $20/hr per person.
