Flack earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1970 from Ball State University and then went on to complete his MBA several years later. In addition, Flack earned the titles of Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) and Certified Long-Term Care Agent (CLTC). In 1974, Flack located to Bluffton and opened his current business.

Flack holds trainings on annuities, life insurance, retirement planning, long-term care insurance planning, and those already on Medicare and Medicaid. “We also offer a service of free diabetic shoes for people on Medicare A and B,” said Flack. “We welcome people to come in for a free 1-hour consultation to assess what their needs are and how we can serve our clients.”

Over the years, Flack has been very involved in community volunteer activities and committees. Flack has served as President of Wells County Chamber of Commerce, Wells County Foundation, United Way of Wells County, and Wells County Economic Development. Flack has volunteered for Junior Achievement (receiving the distinguished Golden Achievement Award), Sunday School Teacher, Gideons International, member of Hope Missionary Church, Bluffton Works, and Bluffton Revitalization. “My favorite volunteer activity is serving as a piano player at Golden Apple, which is the Alzheimer’s wing at Christian Care Retirement Community,” said Flack.

Felger Hart was established when Jim Felger and Doug Hart started the business in 1983. The two gentlemen were known as the best technicians in Fort Wayne. Clients continuously suggested they start their own business; therefore, they both decided to take on the challenge.

The business was opened on Doug and Barb Felger’s property in Bluffton. The office was in the basement with Barb keeping the books for many years. Not long after the business opened, Felger’s son PJ started working at the company as a high schooler. Soon after, Felger’s second son, Tom, followed the same path. A family-run business was being formed.

In 2008 Tom and PJ bought the company and had a vision for growing the business and adding more employees. “As the company started to grow, space was becoming an issue on the property,” said Tom. “We were having a hard time getting the trucks in and out of the space we had and needed more room.”

The current location on State Road 1 became available in November 2014 and the brothers, PJ and Tom, purchased the building. “We moved everything over to this location and the building has been a great sales tool being off State Road 1. So many people drive by and are curious of what this business is, and they look us up,” stated Tom.

Tom takes pride in the 22 employees at Felger Hart creating a good work environment. “The longevity of the employees speaks volumes about the culture of the company,” explained Tom. “Many of them have been with us for a very long time and our goal is to always promote within. We like to hire young people and train them from the beginning and treat them well, so they want to stay with our business.”

We are in need of community employers (business, industry, government, retail, etc.) who are willing to display the service they provide and/or the items they manufacture in their business and the level of education necessary to attain positions at your business.

There will be space for approximately 70 booths and it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will make every effort to accommodate your requests. There is no fee for participation. Present plans are for set-up time on November 8th from 5-6 pm and November 9th from 7:00 - 8:15 am at the Wells County Community Center, 4-H Park, Bluffton.

Merrillville, Ind. — Eighteen organizations will receive grants from NIPSCO to help fund their safety education and training projects throughout Northern Indiana. This year, NIPSCO has granted a total of $63,000. Over the past four years since this grant program was initiated, a total of 62 projects were funded, totaling $213,000 in grant donations that positively impact safety education and programming within the NIPSCO’s service territory.
