Pacific Palisades Fire

Over the past couple of days Los Angeles County has been overcome by dangerous and destructive fires. Lives have been lost and more than 1,000 businesses, homes, and buildings have been destroyed -- including synagogues, churches, and other places of worship. Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes leaving firefighters to battle the rapidly spreading wildfires.

Santa Ana winds, with hurricane force gusts up to 100 mph, quickly fueled the first fire and led to two more major fires. The Palisades Fire, in Pacific Palisades, began first and has charred 12,000+ acres. On Tuesday evening, the Eaton Fire broke out and has burned 10,000+ acres near Altadena and Pasadena. Overnight, the Hurst Fire started in Sylmar and has burned 500 acres.

Monetary donations are needed for medical supplies, food and water, emergency shelter and services for the displaced, homeless, and more.

Below are some opportunities to give tax-deductible emergency support to those most in need through organizations we evaluated:

ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT

Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, the Jewish Federation of Ventura County, and the Jewish Federation of Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, have opened a relief fund to help those affected by the fires. You can help by contributing to their Wildfire Crisis Relief Fund, ensuring that Jewish communities and others affected receive the assistance they desperately need.

Chabad of Pacific Palisades

Chabad's Jewish Community Center structure burned down in the Palisades Fire losing 18 public menorahs, vehicles, equipment, and more. Thankfully, the main building was saved. Click below to watch an ABC News' video with Chabad Rabbi, Zushe Cunin. Jewish Community Center Burns Down.

Center for Disaster Philanthropy

Founded in 2010, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy helps individuals, foundations, and corporations increase the effectiveness of their philanthropic response to disasters and humanitarian crises. It established a California Wildfires Recovery Fund to support communities across the state as they work to rebuild and recover from wildfires. More information about the Fund and how to donate can be found here.

California Fire Foundation

The California Fire Foundation (CFF) provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and communities across the state. CFF is working with local fire agencies and community-based organizations to support residents impacted by the Palisades Fire using resources raised through the

CFF Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund.

Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation

The foundation supports the work of LA Animal Services, which is operating emergency shelters for hundreds of animals affected by evacuation orders. Funds are needed for food, equipment, veterinary care, and staff support. Each year, LA Animal Services aids approximately 60,000 animals and responds to 20,000 emergency calls involving animals or people in danger.

Star of David

Jewish tradition teaches that to save one life is to save an entire world. Please join us in helping those in crisis who have lost everything. During times of sudden emergency and disaster, let's pull together and step forward to help those in need.
