Missouri Assistive Technology will be hosting

"Assistive Technology Boot Camp:

Alternative Access Methods of IPad Use"

This training will follow the format of the previous Boot Camp Training. Each participant will receive an iPad on a two-week loan and supportive training materials. The structure of the training will be as follows:

Monday, September 14th, 2020, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm we will meet via Zoom to introduce the participants to the concepts and technology that has been provided to them.

Tuesday through Thursday, independent study activities will be encouraged. These activities will include iPad Access thru:

Switch Access,

iOS 13 Recipes,

BlueTooth/ Wired Interfaces,

Alternative Keyboards/ Tracking,

Keyguards,

Mounting/ Device Positioning

Assistive Technology for Vehicle Use

Missouri Assistive Technology offers Aids for Daily Living including devices that assist in making vehicle use easier. Scout gives a quick look at the Ruby Slipper, the Gas Cap Turner, and the Handybar, which are all available through the ETC Lending Library at MoAT.

Pretorian iSwitch

The iSwitch provides a bluetooth switch link between the device and the iPad, iPhone, Android or any other platform supporting Bluetooth connectivity. It also supplies two external switch ports for additional access.

RAM iPad Cradle with Suction Mount

Activating an iPad from a flat surface may not be the best access position for all users. The RAM Cradle in the double suction mount provides unlimited positions and access angles to try with the user. This mounting system is available for a five-week loan through ETC.

Grants for Mounting Systems

BlueSky Designs recently received a kind donation of money to purchase mounting systems (excluding Pow!r Mounts) to donate to individuals who do not have the financial funding to purchase their own. Missouri Assistive Technology has been asked to share this information with those that may benefit. To apply, complete and submit the attached online APPLICATION. Direct all questions to info@blueskydesigns.us.

Qualifying recipients must be willing to provide photos, videos and testimonials as part of BlueSky's GoFundMe campaign, They hope to raise enough money to donate 50 Mount’n Mover systems to people in need. We are also asking that recipients help spread the word about the fundraiser to their network and social media outlets.

VAST: Autism & Apraxia Therapy Series was designed for individuals on the spectrum who are non-verbal or have minimal verbal skills due to a motor speech planning disorder such as apraxia. The apps include:

VAST PRE-SPEECH

VAST Pre-Speech is designed for individuals on the Autism spectrum who are non-verbal or have minimal verbal skills due to a motor speech planning disorder such as apraxia.

Children with apraxia of speech have difficulty planning speech movements of the tongue, lips, palate and jaw (articulators), hindering their development of verbal speech.

VAST AUTISM AND APRAXIA

VAST Autism combines the highly effective concept of video modeling with written words and auditory cues to help individuals acquire relevant words, phrases, and sentences so that they can speak for themselves. For children and individuals with strong visual skills, this can be a key to developing speech.

VAST SONGS

VAST Songs supplements the accepted use of singing in speech therapy by providing extra cueing: simultaneously hearing the song while following the oral movements. The application was designed to accommodate and then challenge individuals with speech production or fluency problems
