The International Association of Wildland Fire is pleased to welcome you to the 8th Fire Behaviour and Fuels Conference, 28 April - 01 May, 2026 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Each day starts at 8:30 am. We will begin with a keynote presentation and panel followed by four concurrent sessions on a range of topics to select from throughout the day. Then we will all come together again at the end of the day for our general session panels. Check out our social events below.

The registration desk will be open on Monday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 pm for early check-in. Registration will be located in the Mezzanine Level. Please check-in at this time if you are around.

Following the sessions we will have our Welcome Reception and Poster Session– join our sponsors, exhibitors and poster presenters in the Federation Ballroom for appetizers and a hosted bar from 5.00 - 7.00pm.

WEDNESDAY - April 29
Following the sessions we will head over to In The Hanging Garden for our Meet & Mingle Night from 6.30 - 10.00pm. It is 1.0 km / 16 minute walk from the Grand Chancellor - 112 Murray St. (use the Liverpool Street entrance)
We will provide heavy appetizers and a hosted bar from 6.30 - 8.30pm.
All conference attendees are required to read and agree to adhering to the Principles of Conduct. If you are subjected to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subjected to unacceptable behavior, hear of any such incidents, or have any other concerns, please notify an IAWF representative immediately and report the incident. There will be several means to report any occurrences of inappropriate behavior.

There is a trip leaving on Friday, May 1st. The shuttle leaves from Port Arthur. We have reserved some seats for our guests; however, you need to sign up in advance on your own.
The 48-kilometre track has been designed as an achievable experience for a wide range of ages and abilities. It has been built to a dry-boot standard from a range of materials, including timbers, stone and gravel and is wide enough for two people to walk side-by-side.
The journey begins with walkers checking in at the Port Arthur Historic Site. You will then board a Pennicott Wilderness Journeys purpose built vessel for a cruise of up to 75 minutes exploring coves and the tallest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere before delivering walkers to the start of the track at Denmans Cove. Over four days and three nights, walkers will cover the 48 kilometres amongst tall eucalypt forests, coastal heath and Australia’s highest sea cliffs.
Evenings are spent in warm and comfortable environmentally-sensitive cabins; Surveyors, Munro and Retakunna.
